Band 3 Genomic Assistant/Genetic Nursing Assistant

The Oxford Centre for Genomic Medicine is seeking an organized, enthusiastic and compassionate individual to join our service as a Genomic Assistant/Genetic Nursing Assistant. The successful postholder will play a pivotal support role in helping our service deliver whole genome sequencing (WGS) as a routine clinical service to the patients and families we care for at OUH Trust and the wider region. The post holder will be key in coordinating family consenting appointments for WGS, arranging blood samples, and liaising closely with the Genomic Practitioner and laboratories to ensure smooth WGS service delivery. The post holder will also be key in providing clinical/nursing support in a defined number of clinics. The post is ideal for an experienced nursing assistant who has interest in the area of clinical genetics, or an individual who wishes to develop towards becoming a Genomic Practitioner, and potentially more senior clinical positions in clinical genetics accordance with career progression regulations and guidance published on AGNC, GCRB and NSHCS websites.

Full time
- Monday to Friday Office hours
- Providing clinical assistance in a defined set of clinics (training provided)
- Adult phlebotomy (training provided)
- Facilitating whole genome sequencing and similar genomic tests for patients and their relatives in OUH Trust region (Oxon, Bucks, Berks, Wilts) by arranging appointments with Genomic Practitioners and collating sample trios (DNA samples from patient and two relatives) by spreadsheet (Excel, MS List). Arranging appointments requires a sensitive and compassionate manner, and being able to explain to patients and their relatives why WGS requires a consent appointment and what the test will entail.
- Assist the Genomic Practitioner and GLH Medical Director in fortnightly data collation.
