An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ICS Chief Pharmacist, which is a key senior role with responsibility for all aspects of pharmacy leadership, medicines management & optimisation, as well as the clinical and strategic development of Pharmacy professional services.

We are seeking an exceptional leader, who is a registered pharmacist with excellent interpersonal and influencing skills. You will have a proven track record of motivating, inspiring and developing teams, leading the continual improvement of Pharmacy and Medicines Management services.

Reporting to the ICB Executive Director of Places and professionally accountable to the ICB Chief Medical Officer and to the NHSE London Regional Chief Pharmacist you will provide expert clinical, professional and technical advice to the board and direction for the delivery of comprehensive pharmaceutical services to patients and staff across our ICS. You will lead on the development of pharmacy practice and an integrated, flexible pharmacy workforce across North Central London.

The post-holder will provide a single accountable role to the ICB for pharmacy and medicines optimisation, working system wide to ensure line of sight, reassurance, and accountability to the ICB on medicines across all care settings. The role will provide dedicated professional leadership and take responsibility for the delivery of the pharmacy and medicines optimisation elements of the of the ICS’s vision, aims and objectives, along with its external relationships with regional and national partners.

The ICS Chief Pharmacist & Deputy Chief Clinical Officer will provide strategic leadership for:

- the pharmacy profession and workforce within the ICS
- medicines planning and medicines value
- supporting the pharmaceutical and medicines elements of emergency planning, preparedness and resilience
- medicines and prescribing initiatives with a focus on reducing unwarranted variation, promoting equity of access and supporting transformational change, and
- supporting recovery and the restoration of sustainable services.

The North Central London Integrated Care System (ICS) is a partnership of organisations that come together to plan and deliver joined up health and care services to improve the lives of people in our five boroughs: Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey and Islington.

In NCL we have many excellent health and care services, strong local government and vibrant, mixed communities. We have several world-renowned providers and NCL also benefits from having strong academic links with University College London as well as good partnerships with other research institutions, enabling us to harness research into practice and innovation. The ICS benefits from digital maturity through our HealtheIntent population health management tool. This has been instrumental to planning and delivering a variety of programmes of work from vaccines to elective recovery.

The Deputy Chief Clinical Officer & ICS Chief Pharmacist will have overall accountability for the delivery of all medicines optimisation and pharmacy services across NCL’s ICS. They will cover existing and new priorities across the system and support the strengthening of clinical and professional collaboration across the system as we transition as an ICS. They will work with all partners to develop a system wide vision for medicines optimisation and pharmacy through clinical and patient engagement, linking national medicines policy and local clinical priorities to deliver maximum value and outcomes for the NCL ICS.

Key aims and objectives of robust medicines optimisation across system footprints will include:

- Reducing unwarranted variation in access to medicines and supporting consistency in preferred prescribing choices and local formularies where appropriate.
- Reducing silo working and duplication of effort and governance.
- Ensuring medicines are core to pathway redesign and service transformation across the ICS.

The Deputy Chief Clinical Officer & ICS Chief Pharmacist will provide strategic leadership for:

- the pharmacy profession and workforce within the ICS
- medicines commissioning and supply
- emergency planning, preparedness and resilience
- medicines and prescribing initiatives with a focus on reducing unwarranted variation, promoting equity of access and supporting transformational change and,
- supporting recovery and the restoration of sustainable services.

They will lead as an authoritative expert in pharmacy and medicines optimisation across all care settings with the respect of peers and senior national leaders. The post holder will provide professional advice and guidance on matters relating to the use and supply of medicines to the ICB.
