- Job description- Tackling the climate emergency and the biodiversity crisis is at the top of the agenda. In this role you will provide practical action on these strategic and fundamental issues.
Local Nature Recovery Strategies (LNRS) are a new England-wide system of spatial strategies, designed to support the restoration and recovery of nature.
Here in the North East of England, four county-based Local Nature Recovery Strategies (LNRS) need to be developed to ensure action and investment is targeted.
Each LNRS will map specific opportunities for taking priority action for nature recovery and the use of “nature-based solutions” to address wider environmental issues like flooding, climate change mitigation and adaptation or poor water quality.
In this role you will be part of multi-agency partnership teams developing these plans. You will bring Environment Agency information and data as well as biodiversity knowledge to influence and shape the strategies.
Your ability to build close working relationships both within the organisation and with partners will key.
This is a new role and is a 2-year fixed contract.
- The team- The North East Area Biodiversity and Geomorphology team is a friendly and supportive team. We work closely with multiple teams both at an area and national level, including the Environment Programme team to secure multiple benefits for the environment and its rivers.
In this role you will work closely with multiple internal teams as well as external partners and stakeholders.
Experience/skills required- We are seeking someone with a good understanding of Ecology / Biodiversity, and the ability to work in partnership with others.
You will have an Environmental degree or equivalent and/or over 3 years of relevant experience.
You will need:

- Enthusiasm. As a biodiversity advocate, you will be passionate about this topic and be able to promote and champion it.
- To be an influential friend. You will be skilled at building trusted working relationships in order to guide and influence people and what they do.

All Environment Agency staff receive training to support our response to major incidents.
