**Sporting Force are looking for a Veteran Support Officer (VSO)**

The Veteran Support Officer (VSO) will have a caseload of ex-service personnel and military families.

Working with regional delivery partners, you will make referrals for support, whilst retaining the overall caseworker responsibilities. Your role will be crucial to the success of the service user’s outcome. If you are an experienced caseworker with an understanding of working with veterans and the wider Armed Forces Community, we would like to hear from you. We are looking for someone who can work within our Support team and fully appreciates the patience, resilience and self-motivation that is required to support the Armed Forces Community. We welcome applicants who have experience of working with veterans although this is not essential.

You must be able to work independently, particularly in managing your time and caseload, whilst recognising that you are one crucial element of a wider team of support who will need to work collaboratively to get the best outcome for clients.

**Job Title: Veteran Support Officer**

Reports to: The Operations Manager

Based: In our Recovery and Wellness Centre in Darlington with travel to multiple locations within the North East and Yorkshire.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (e.g. 9-5, half hour unpaid break)

Contract: 1 Year

Salary £25,000

Company benefits: 3% Employer pension contribution

**Job Purpose**

To deliver face-to-face care coordination to veterans and their families as part of the AFCT Veterans Places, Pathways and People Programme, AFCT Dandelion Project and our ABF Back in the Game Programme.

To work in partnership with VPPP partners and external partners to ensure longevity of support for our beneficiaries beyond the funding period.

To work in partnership with Sports Clubs and other organisations supporting veterans into new careers.

To scope and resource training and qualification opportunities.

To engage with local welfare providers and key support service organisations who will assist in identified support and create essential pathways for those to access the appropriate services.

**Primary Duties and Responsibilities**
- To work with veterans/members of the Armed Forces Community who self-refer or are referred by statutory services or partner organisations.
- To work with the beneficiary to design a personalised care plan; identifying support needs to ensure maximum engagement in improving health and well-being.
- To utilise and develop the local network of appropriate organisations who could support beneficiaries in their community.
- To support the beneficiary through the recovery and welfare process.
- To provide the beneficiary with continuity remaining the point of contact throughout the individual’s journey.
- To establish and maintain effective liaison with stakeholders including health, voluntary, social and employment resources.
- To work in partnership with all voluntary and community organisations to build and maintain a comprehensive database of local resources.
- Work effectively alongside colleagues who provide support to the veterans and their families. **Ensure all reporting and data input requirements are met.**:

- To keep time sheets and records of your work and adhere to confidentiality, information sharing protocols and provide monitoring information as required.
- To ensure that the programme meets Sporting Force professional standards and the reporting requirements.
- Undertake relevant training and development as and when identified.
- Provide data input into impact and central records systems where required.

The above list of responsibilities is not exhaustive, and you may be required to undertake other responsibilities as required by your line manager, appropriate to your level of pay.

As a Veteran Support Officer (VSO) you will work with those Veterans, their families, and carers, who have been referred and accepted into the programme. This work will be Recovery Centre based. Work may sometimes be required to be scheduled for outside of typical office hours (9-5pm).

**Essential**

Hold relevant Level 4 qualifications and IAG Qualifications

Full driving licence

Experience of developing and delivering projects

**Desirable**

Experience of working in partnership

Connecting agendas and advocating for physical activity

Experience of working on projects and programmes relating to Armed Forces

Served within the Armed Forces

Strong understanding of the relationship between physical activity and mental wellbeing

Proven experience of working with individuals to provide support & guidance

Creating and implementing support action plans

Identifying personal and workplace risks

Ability to initiate and manage influential external relationships

Ability to empower people to move forward with their support

Knowledge of Armed Forces communities in the North East

Knowledge and understanding of common mental health issues exp
