Main duties of the job

Towork with key stakeholders and senior members of the Medical Education team tocoordinate the delivery of Postgraduate Medical Education across all trustsites whilst ensuring joined up and streamlined working. To co-ordinateperformance management processes to help identify areas of best practice,provide focus on continuous improvement and delivering improved outcomes and totake action to improve the experience of Doctors in Training, ensuring that theactivities of Medical Education are in line with overall Medical Education,Medical Directorate and Trust Strategies.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To use specialist knowledge across the medical educationcurricula, to compile teaching programmes which meet contractual and qualityrequirements and support the wellbeing and pastoral challenges of Doctors inTraining.

To provide expert knowledge with particular emphasis onHigher Speciality Trainees and their education and training needs to CareGroups to support the Trusts business and delivery of Postgraduate MedicalEducation.

To identify high quality performance and any risks andissues that may affect the standards expected as outlined in the MedicalEducation Strategy and Postgraduate Training Programmes, whilst supportingClinical Care Groups to balance the service needs of the organisation with theeducational needs of junior doctors in training, and their relevant trainingcurriculam.

To ensure evidence and systems are in place for robustreporting and quality assurance for the organisation other external bodies asrequired.

Cover the geographical area overseen by the Medical EducationDepartment that is, County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust and todevelop appropriate links working in partnership with Newcastle Medical School,NHS England Education, Lead Employer Trust, Tees and Esk Wear Valley NHS Trustand local general practitioners.

Required to travel to all Trust sites.

Special Skills & Knowledge

Essential

Excellent IT skills including good working knowledge of full Microsoft Office Suite and Windows Operating Systems. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including verbal, written and telephone and the ability to present a positive and professional image at all times. Adaptable, determined, self-motivated and enthusiastic with competence in dealing with situations involving other people. Being able to understand the need for diplomacy and tact. Ability to work autonomously and manage own workload; work on own initiative and as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Ability to maintain complete confidentiality and discretion. Good organisational skills to meet demanding delivery schedules and provide support to trust staff. Able to produce high standard reports ( KPI reports) and analyse data.

Desirable

Understand the administration processes of educational curricula and systems and their associated needs within the NHS in relation to undergraduate medical education. Knowledge of issues relating to the training of Junior Medical Staff in the NHS

Qualifications

Essential

Educated to Degree level qualification or equivalent relevant experience in Medical Education, Higher Education, Human Resources or Workforce and Organisational Development.

Experience of managing the delivery of learning and development programmes (ideally within a public sector organisation), with demonstrable experience of co-ordinating the delivery of training initiatives. Proven track record of designing and delivering learning and development initiatives, including the production of supporting learning materials
