The Role

Fighting financial crime is an FCA public commitment, requiring strong coordination and focus. The FCA is investing more by growing our financial crime policy capacity. We’re looking for a senior associate with excellent communication and analytical skills who can work flexibly and build strong relationships with stakeholders and team members. You will have policy experience, and anti-money laundering (AML) experience would also be desirable.

The Office for Professional Body Anti-Money Laundering Supervision sits within the FCA’s Specialist Directorate and is at the forefront of the FCA’s approach to reducing financial crime. OPBAS’s objectives are to reduce the harm of money laundering by ensuring a robust and consistently high standard of professional body AML/CTF supervision, and to facilitate information and intelligence sharing between professional body supervisors (PBSs) in the legal and accountancy sectors, statutory supervisors and law enforcement agencies.

What does the role involve?

As a OPBAS Policy Senior Associate you will be responsible for:

- Leading on workstreams to develop and implement policy relating to economic crime, including OPBAS's supervision of PBSs
- Briefing and engagement on aspects of OPBAS's work
- Supporting the delivery of OPBAS supervision by analysing findings and making judgements about the effectiveness of PBSs' AML supervision.
- Critically assessing and evaluating information to form judgements about progress against AML standards
- Building and maintaining good relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders

The role will provide a unique opportunity to develop expertise in financial crime and to evolve the approach to AML supervision. Minimum
- Proven policy experience
- Excellent written and oral communication skills

Essential
- Strong sense of judgement and personal accountability
- Strong stakeholder and communication skills to build and maintain relations with internal and external stakeholders
- Strong analytical skills
- Ability to see the bigger picture and understand how workstreams support strategic organisational objectives
- Ability to manage and deliver a variety of competing tasks and issues, prioritising appropriately and escalating where necessary
- Working collaboratively as part of a team, valuing different perspectives and backgrounds, and working with others collaboratively, minimising silos
