Part of CPI’s global communications team, the Senior Design Associate will work closely with communications team colleagues, data scientists, and analysts across our global offices to transform complex data sets, quantitative, and qualitative analysis into clear and compelling visual stories. You will work with analysts to find the relevant stories and lead the design of data visualizations and other graphics to communicate insights.

Our visual communication function is a crucial component in ensuring that CPI’s work is well understood and resonates with our target audience of policymakers, regulators, financial professionals, investors, and other key stakeholders in the climate finance and policy ecosystem.

**PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Work with communications, data science, and research team members to conceptualize and execute data visualization of CPI work, including charts, graphs, tables, maps, infographics, and other data visualization approaches to interpret our finance and policy analysis
- Define visual communication strategy project requirements, estimate time and other resource needs, develop work plans, project manage to agreed-upon plans, develop, deliver and refine assets, and communicate with teams to keep projects on time and on budget
- Execute and support online communications including development and deployment of static data visualizations, interactive graphics, image research and production, publication layout, web design, web development, content management, and backend website maintenance
- Conduct quality assurance and review all data visualizations and website integrations to ensure accuracy, usability, and adherence to brand, style, and accessibility guidelines
- Coordinate with freelancers, contractors, vendors, and other external resources to deliver design and data visualization needs

**COMPETENCIES & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES**

**Essential**
- Proven experience in data visualization and graphic design, with progressive multi-years’ experience or demonstrable equivalent skills
- Ability to turn technical economics and finance information into accessible visual insights for investors, policymakers, and other stakeholders
- A strong affinity for numbers and quantitative data, with ability to clearly communicate the reasoning behind design choices
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including graphics development, graphics production, and publication layout
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Flourish, Tableau, Power BI and/or other similar online data visualization tools
- Intermediate proficiency with HTML, CSS, D3, and JavaScript as it relates to delivering online data visualization
- Intermediate proficiency with WordPress themes and plugins for data visualization deployment
- Fundamental to intermediate proficiency with MS PowerPoint and Word (for visual communication and layout purposes)
- Outstanding organizational, project management, and prioritization skills, with ability to work flexibly and with a solutions-oriented approach to manage multiple deliverables on tight deadlines
- Independent worker and strategic thinker, who learns quickly and is able to successfully navigate unchartered territory
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships in a cross-cultural, global working environment, including polished, diplomatic interface to overcome barriers, meet deadlines, and achieve project goals
- Creative vision, a passion for learning, and able to stay up-to-date with the latest trends and advancements in data visualization and design techniques, tools, and technologies
- Contribute to a positive work environment within the communications team and across the CPI community

**Desirable**
- Familiarity with UI and UX principles, with ability to guide wireframing, website development, and implementation of data tools, landing pages, and other online outputs
- Familiarity with key JavaScript web frameworks and libraries such as R, Python, SQL, Angular, React
- Mapping and cartography skills and tools, such as ArcGIS
- Experience with visual data journalism.
- Background or understanding of climate policy, climate finance, and/or sustainable development.

Location: London

Reports to: Design Manager

Contract: Permanent, Full Time

Salary Range: £50,000 - £65,000 per annum (depending on experience)
