**About the Role**

As an Emergency Accommodation Placement Officer, you will be working in the allocations team and will be responsible for undertaking emergency placements for residents providing temporary accommodation on an emergency basis. You will also need to ensure existing bookings of emergency accommodation are extended where required in a timely fashion to reduce inconvenience to residents and any required housing benefit change of circumstances are completed where moves between accommodations occur.

In this role, you will also be involved in:

- Maintaining data bases of property and residents.
- Ensuring records of placements are maintained and updated.
- Assisting customers in their claims for income and welfare benefits including support in liaison with Revenues and Benefits/DWP.
- Producing statistics on emergency placements for internal partners and services.
- Support for payment to providers and income recovery as well as signposting residents of emergency accommodation for support services.
- Conducting a person centred fire risk assessments.
- Undertaking all physical tasks associated with conducting property/site visits.

We are a hybrid working organisation so there is a requirement to come into our offices at least three days a week and due to the nature of this role, you may be required to work outside of normal hours.

The Community Housing Service helps people secure and keep housing and avert crisis, we provide a range of housing and homelessness prevention support across Kingston. The allocations team is made up of a team manager, allocation officers and the Emergency Accommodation Placement Officer. We are a friendly and supportive team, working flexibility to meet the challenges presented by the need to provide homes for those in need.

**About You**

We are looking for someone who is confident in working with people who are facing difficult housing circumstances and can work as a team and independently.

To be successful in this role, you must have:

- Have excellent customer service skills.
- Great communication skills, being able to communicate clearly, confidently and appropriately with colleagues and the community.
- Be committed to building a sound knowledge of the council's policies, especially in relation to property allocation and working within this legal framework.
- Experience of working in a high pressured customer facing environment.
- Ideally you will have experience of working within a housing field but not essential.
