**Our main purpose is simple**: to improve the use of medicines to help people live longer, fuller lives. We do this by joining together experts to create a rich source of impartial advice for pharmacists and other professionals using medicines.

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was created on 1 October 2019 following the merger of two adult acute Trusts, Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust.

The merger provides an opportunity to reconfigure services in a way that provides the best healthcare services to the city and improves the quality of care and health outcomes that patients experience.

The Trust runs Aintree University Hospital, Broadgreen Hospital, Liverpool University Dental Hospital and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

To deliver a range of Quality Assurance duties in support of the North West Quality assurance senior team including:
Regional Quality Assurance service

Supporting the programme of unlicensed aseptic units audits in accordance with EL 97(52) by

organising audits and issuing pre-audit questionnaires

providing advice and guidance to individual units on quality systems

monitoring the progress of audit action plans

creation and maintenance of compliance dashboards
Supporting national and North West licensed and unlicensed medicines contracting by:
Management of samples of medicines including receipt, record keeping and disposal.

Obtaining quality and technical information from NHS and non-NHS suppliers

Assessing the pharmaceutical quality of medicines and medical devices and their potential for medication error against a specification.

Evaluation of scientific and technical reports relating to medicines

Creation of assessment reports and bulletins for issue to Trusts.
Creation of quality indicator reports.

Supporting the provision of advice and guidance on safe and secure handling of medicines

e.g coordinating the temperature mapping service to support the safe storage of medicines,

including interpretation of data and preparation of reports.

Supporting the senior QA Team in their provision of advice and guidance regarding the above, by:
Providing first line telephone response to queries

Maintaining and updating the QA advice database (MI Databank) and filing system.
Facilitating discrete quality improvement projects

Assisting in the development of resources, audit tools and training materials to assist Trusts, including:
The design, validation and operation of clean rooms, facilities and equipment

Safe and secure handling of medicines

Risk management relating to the purchasing of medicines

Cascading of drug alerts and recalls from the MHRA to Trusts.

Reviewing and assessing reports of defective medicines from Trusts, liaising with suppliers where required, and submitting summaries to the national reporting system

Review of websites, bulletins and other publications to ensure that the QA team is aware of changes to regulations, guidance and other news related to preparation, purchasing and safe and secure handling of medicines.

Assist the senior QA team and regional Procurement Lead in maintenance of the NW Quality Assurance and Procurement website to make national and local information and guidance readily available to the NW Trusts.
