Ophthalmology Clinical Fellow

The successful applicant will be based in the new REI Ophthalmology centre, the post holder will be joining an experienced team, the post holder will work under the supervision of the Consultants in outpatients and operating theatres at the Royal Eye Infirmary. Elective and Non-Elective in-patient services are provided at Derriford Hospital, Lynher Ward. When on-call for emergencies out of normal working hours being resident on site is not mandatory, but you must be available on site within 20 minutes.
The post holder will be expected to take part in urgent care and manage and/or supervise acute clinics. We believe in supporting the growth of the future workforce and therefore the post-holder will partake in teaching and training within the department.
The appointee will be required to work with his/her colleagues in providing a service in Ophthalmology which is of a high quality and which meets the government set waiting list targets and the Trusts quality standards.
To collaborate and work to maintain Ophthalmology services in line with strategic requirements.

To develop appropriate services and techniques required to fulfil clinical needs.
To take responsibility for the professional supervision and appraisal of junior medical staff, in conjunction with colleagues.
To participate in the education and training of junior doctors, medical students, nurses, paramedics, and general practitioners.
To liaise with medical staff in other specialties and participate in clinical meetings and postgraduate activities in the Trust.
To maintain and develop good communications with general practitioners.
To participate in research in accordance with priorities agreed within the Division and the Trust within available resources.
To contribute to the development of Ophthalmology services, treatment guidelines and the promotion of greater knowledge of the management of Ophthalmology conditions in primary care.
The Department is keen to support any key interests that a Specialty Doctor may have and encourages personal and departmental development to support the service
