Head of Midwifery

The post holder will support the Director of Midwifery (DOM) and Women's Services in developing and delivering a strategic approach to Midwifery and Womens services that meets the needs of local population with a specific focus on the deprivation, diversity, and inclusion agenda. This post holder will be 1 of 2 Head of Midwifery ( HOM) roles.
The post holder will also support the DOM in the professional leadership, development and management of midwifery and nursing within the Women's and Childrens Clinical Management group ( CMG) to facilitate the delivery of excellent midwifery and nursing practice that is evidence based and measurable. The post holder will be responsible for the management and quality of patient care delivered in respect of choice and personalisation.
The post is part of the senior management team within Women's and Children's CMG that would play a key role in ensuring high quality maternity/nursing services that meets national requirements. This is to ensure the service can withstand external scrutiny with a clear plan to support compliance with national recommendations that is sustainable
You will be a vital member of the senior leadership team within the Clinical Management Group of Women's and Children's, working closely with the Clinical Director and Head of operations and the rest of the CMG team. In addition, you will work with the Corporate Senior Nursing and Midwifery team, with responsibility for influencing and delivering a number of trust wide professional programmes. You will be a true advocate of the development of service and are required to both drive and promote continuous improvement.
The post holder will support the divisional structure and leadership team in developing, reviewing, and monitoring departmental action plans that supports compliance with the recommendation, Immediate and Essential actions from the final Ockenden and East Kent reports. in addition ensuring a robust process of compliance with CNST standards and CQC.

The role will support and influence the Local Maternity System in line with the Better Births recommendations which includes the planning and delivery of models of midwifery care, creating new ways of working with innovation to improve outcomes, support service development and quality improvement.
This is in close collaboration with ICB.

The post holder, as part of Divisional Quadrumvirate, will provide expert clinical advice, and will work with associated agencies such as the Local Maternity and Neonatal Services (LMNS) in the ICB and health and wellbeing boards, to deliver and assure we are providing outstanding midwifery care
You will inherit a midwifery/nursing workforce that is truly committed to patient safety and a maternity/nursing team that wants to make UHL the safest maternity and women's services in the country.
