**About the role**:
You will work as part of a supportive, diverse and friendly team of Senior and Junior Developers. You will regularly use pairing and occasional mobbing to analyse and solve problems.

You will use and learn diverse technologies including: Ruby on Rails, JavaScript (React & Vue), Java (Spring Boot), Python (Flask) and SQL.

**About you**:
You will learn and deploy best practice programming and testing techniques using appropriate tools and languages. The team operates a Scrum approach to development with a team-centric mentality. You will be coached and trained by your fellow developers on ways to develop your skills going forward.

You will grow a knowledge of Python and JavaScript, which are applied in various contexts across our products. An essential part of the role is to develop an understanding of each of the systems' architecture, data schema and tools. However, no previous experience in the aforementioned languages is required. Your desire to learn and adapt in our fast-changing scientific environment is critical.

You do not need a background in science, but you do need a curious mind to work closely with our end users, understand their needs and maximise the value of the solutions we deliver.

**Technical Skills**:

- Bachelor's degree or above in computer related sciences or equivalent experience.
- In-depth knowledge of at **least two programming languages** one of which will be Python or JavaScript
- Experience developing multi user web based systems using an existing framework in an industry setting - G2
- Experienced with modern software development tools and practice including test driven development and continuous integration (CI/CD Pipelines).

In addition you will have experience of **at least one **discipline in;
- G2
- Data Engineering and data modelling (ERD)
- Design, and manipulation (CRUD) of relational database systems or noSQL platforms.
- Design and construction of data visualisation dashboards.
- Agile project methodologies (SCRUM and/or Kanban).
- Human Computer Interaction (HCI) and/or a passion for user experience (UX).

**Other Information**

**Hybrid Working**:
We have adopted a hybrid working model to allow for flexibility between office and remote working. We can discuss this further with you at interview stage.

**Salary range** **(Dependant on skills and experience)**:
**Grade 2 **Senior Software Developer £47,643 to £56,000 G2 role profile

**Grade 3** Software Developer £36,379 to £42,000 G3 role profile

**Closing Date**:4th December 2023

**Contract length**: 12 months fixed term contract
