As a Senior User Researcher, you will be an experienced practitioner who can plan, design and execute user research activities externally and internally across several programmes of work and teams. You will lead the organisation and these teams in taking a user centred, evidence-based approach to service design and delivery.

You will further develop our user research capability and assure good user research practice.

Your Role

**Responsibilities**:

- Be responsible for the planning, design and execution of user research and usability testing externally and internally across several programmes of work and teams to understand user needs and behaviours to inform the design and development of Commission services.
- Analyse and synthesise quantitative and qualitative data involving the wider team.
- Influence service and product development by taking a user centred, evidence-based approach by turning user research findings into actionable insights.
- Provide oversight and quality assurance across a programme or several user research projects.
- Effectively communicate user research findings externally to our users and internally to the team, key stakeholders, senior management and the wider organisation, to influence decision making and constructively challenge ways of thinking.
- Develop ways to recruit and manage participants for user research to ensure that the research is representative of all our users.
- Ensure multidisciplinary teams are researching inclusively with a wide range of users, including those with additional needs.
- Align user research activities with wider organisational objectives to provide strategic insights.
- Identify, mitigate or escalate risks to conducting and implementing user research.
- Keep abreast of user research best practice and cascade ways of working to make teams user centred and evidence-based in their approaches.
- Maintain good relationships across externally users and the organisation, by influencing through user research insights to support the delivery of priorities.

About You

Essential
- A proven track record of planning and delivering complex user research working both externally and internally across several programmes of work and several teams.
- A proven track record of analysing and synthesizing complex quantitative and qualitative data.
- Extensive experience in communicating insights from user research across the team, stakeholders, and the wider organisation, in a clear and impactful way that informs the design and product development and enables continuous improvements.
- A good understanding of research ethics, and how to keep participants, teams, and yourself safe in research.
- Experience of researching with and advocating for a wide range of users, including users with additional needs and other hard-to-reach groups so that delivery teams build accessible services.
- Supporting multidisciplinary teams to embed user centred and evidence-based practices into their agile workflows.
- Developing colleagues within your own and other disciplines, supporting their professional development in user centred and evidence-based thinking.
- Working with management teams to ensure a common understanding of research priorities.
- Experience of delivering user research within agile digital delivery teams.

Desirable
- Knowledge of the Government Digital Service Standard and service assessments.
- Knowledge about the technologies used to build and operate digital services.
