Clinical Trials Data Systems Officer

Applications are invited for the above position within Bangor University’s Clinical Trials Unit (NWORTH). This is an excellent opportunity to join an innovative and successful team engaged in the rewarding task of supporting clinical trials of complex interventions that inform clinical practice and have a positive impact on healthcare policy and patient outcomes.
The postholder will design, develop and implement clinical trial data systems, including web-based systems, relational databases and current trial data management software (for example Infer Med MACRO or RedCaP) to support trials (and other rigorous quantitative studies) in the design and management of data capture, analysis, dissemination and archiving. You will be working with a wide variety of CTU and trial staff including statisticians, trial managers, clinicians, research nurses and data entry clerks therefore excellent communication skills are essential. You will contribute to the ongoing review and development of the IT function’s Standard Operating Procedures and service improvements. You will provide regular reports to the CTU Director, CTU Manager and Core Operations Team.

North Wales Organisation for Randomised Trials in Health (NWORTH):
The North Wales Organisation for Randomised Trials in Health and Social Care is a clinical trials unit (CTU) which has full UKCRC registration. The CTU is part funded by the Welsh Government via Health and Care Research Wales. The mission of the Unit is to conduct clinical trials and studies of complex interventions of the highest quality; delivering research with impact and advancing methodological developments in clinical trials research. With a history of successful design and delivery of pragmatic trials of complex interventions, NWORTH provides a wide range of research and development opportunities for its staff.

IT Systems in NWORTH
Bangor University central IT Services function
The University has a central IT Services function which sets the IT Strategy for the University, and provides IT Infrastructure, facilities and services for staff and students across the University. IT Services work with NWORTH to provide part of the IT Infrastructure required for NWORTH (e.g., the desktop infrastructure, virtual servers, Installation, back-up and patching for the SQL Server environments that support the MACRO trials software).
Data Systems Officer
The post holder will be responsible for contributing to the IT function at the trials unit. The post holder will join a small IT team who mainly focus on the configuration, validation, maintenance, administration, user-training and support of web-based data capture and randomisation systems.
