Taking a leading role in the Charity Commission’s compliance with the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and GDPR/Data Protection Act 2018 working on complex technical issues within the legislative and organisational frameworks for handling requests within tight deadlines.

Interpretation of the law and of each situation is required including research into the case itself and the many strands to analyse what may or may not be relevant. Providing high quality responses to FOI and Subject Rights requests within the statutory deadline.

**Job description**:
Liaise with other parts of the Commission seeking and exchanging information and clarifying points of detail required to respond to requests.

Provide initial research and interpretation of material t to the wider team, making recommendations where appropriate.

Contribute to initiatives to develop and improve the FOI process, including the development and maintenance of the Freedom of Information SharePoint Hub.

Maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the role.

Independently undertake research and development work relevant to the role which may include data protection issues as well as wider knowledge and information management work.

Ability

Ability to analyse complex casework/information to form sound judgements and conclusions.

Ability to plan and prioritise competing demands to ensure performance targets and deadlines are met.

Ability to explain complex information, in a variety of media, including excellent written communications skills, professional standard of telephony; and ensure that the information is understood by the recipient.

Experience

Effectively manage a workload/task throughout its lifecycle.

Maintaining a professional approach when presented with a challenging discussion by using techniques to understand need(s); manage expectations and provide a constructive and proportionate outcome.

Technical

Application of risk management principles during the management of work and when making decisions.

Handling data and information sensitively in accordance with the business procedures and/or law.

Certified FOI Practitioner (or the willingness to undertake this training)

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications.
