**Play Leader - Mon, Wed, Friday 4.30 pm to 7.30 & Saturday 9 to 4pm ( sessions may vary)**

**Evening and Weekend ONLY**

Local Aid Swansea based charity is recruiting Play Leaders to work join the team working with young people participating in their out of school Programme.

Buddies support young people age 12 to 19 with additional support needs including complex needs and behaviours that challenge The programme has four elements:
**Buddies’ Saturdays**

A provision for young people for young people aged 11 to 19 with complex needs and behaviours that challenge.

**Buddies’ Community Access**

A provision for young people aged 12 to19 with additional learning needs and who need support to access and participate in mainstream activities available in the community.

**Palms Up**

A provision for young people aged 12 to19 with a range of complex health needs including peg feeding, epilepsy and mobility support needs.

**Dyversity**

An open access, family session supporting young people who are on the autistic spectrum or awaiting diagnosis.

The programme provides is a short break, respite provision for young people and their families. The provision:
- Is solution focused
- be age appropriate
- uses person centred planning; reflect the interests and needs of individuals
- ensures the voice of the CYP is heard and acted upon
- promotes wellbeing, self-confidence, choices, enjoyment
- develops life-skills, independence, communication, social interaction
- facilitate access to community amenities
- seeks to address the impact of Covid; build resilience, minimise difficulties with anxieties and lack of trust

The post is to support all of our groups with a flexible approach to working. Cover staff when needed.

**Purpose and Objectives**
- To plan for and provide responsive, high-quality, person-centred care for young people aged 11 to 19 with complex learning needs and challenging behaviours, based on an assessment of need in their care plan.
- To work with Buddies’ key workers and volunteers to enable young people to further develop their life skills through participating in leisure activities at the service base and community facilities.
- To ensure the wishes, views and needs of young people are heard, acknowledged and responded to by facilitating communication and participation.
- To implement the ethos, policy and practices of the Buddies’ Programme

**Main Tasks**

1. To provide care and support for young people with a disability and additional learning need including behaviours that challenge in a safe, fun and welcoming environment.

2. To be a Buddies’ key worker for designated young people.

3. To become familiar with any care plan in place for the young person for whom you are planning activities. Also, to ensure an understanding of specific needs, including medical and dietary needs of the young person for whom you are providing care and support.

4. To plan and facilitate stimulating leisure activities for the young people that meets their needs and aligns with any formal plan in existence.

5. To ensure the activities support the young people in developing social and communication and independence skills.

6. Actively participate and engage in the planned activities with the young people, activity leaders and volunteers.

7. To ensure the activities are accessible to the young people and they are able can participate in a meaningful way.

8. To promote wellbeing and enable young people to take ownership through ensuring they have a voice and choices during the session.

9. To evaluate and record the progress and achievements made by the young people at each session.

10. To access the online case management system to inform planning and record activities undertaken, progress made and update the young person’s record.

11. To identify, assess, manage, and record risks to self and others and act upon or pass on these risks to minimise them, referring on issues that require specialist and/or management support.

12. To take responsibility for ensuring that each individual’s medical and dietary needs are met and for safe keeping and administrating of medication.

13. To supervise young people’s basic care needs such as toileting and feeding ensuring they are carried out with dignity and respect.

14. To take responsibility for appropriate First Aid and ensure proper medical attention for any young person in attendance should the need arise.

15. To engage with families.

16. To provide support and skills training for volunteers.

17. To raise awareness of the needs and aspirations of young people in need and those with disability.

18. To actively take part in the monitoring and evaluation of the service.

19. To participate in training provided by Local Aid.
