The aim of the role is to enhance the quality of family centered care by leading autonomously on the practice of individualized developmental and family integrated care on both the Neonatal unit and Transitional care. The post holder will show leadership in the management of consistency in practice, high standards of care and innovation with a strong patient safety focus and they will provide a resource of information for staff and parents.

Acting as a professional role model and skilled practitioner the post holder will take responsibility for care, providing all aspects of neonatal care, ensuring the delivery of evidence based, safe high quality nursing care to babies and their families. This will include working along side staff providing clinical education and support, in all areas of the service; intensive, high dependency, special care and transitional care.

Families will be supported to transition to the NCOT service and the Early Discharge Clinic, where appropriate.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring optimal patient care and service delivery, with regard for Family Integrated Care (FIC) and Developmental Care (DC). They will undertake a key role in ensuring the team and its services meet the necessary quality standards, through effective planning, delivery, service improvement and management of performance.

Through strong clinical leadership the post holder will act as a professional and skilled practitioner, be responsible for improving standards of care and patient outcomes.

The post holder will inspires, motivates and empower parents and staff to ensure FIC and DC, ensuring the best possible outcomes for the babies.

To assess the babies physiological and behavioral responses during routine medical and nursing care. To educate the family and staff member in responsiveness to the baby’s clinical signs.
