*Community Food Co-op Coordinator - Role description* *About the role and project* We are looking for an experienced project co-ordinator with excellent people skills to oversee the establishment of a new, thriving Food Coop at *Leaders in Community's Teviot Centre,* *E14 6QD.* This exciting new project will build on the model of a ‘Pop-up shop’, which has been pioneered at St Hildas East Community Centre. The Food Coop will buy in high-quality and organic produce, and sell it to the community at prices accessible to all, offering affordable, healthy food whilst reducing environmental impact. With mentoring from experienced staff at St Hildas, you will be supported with the knowledge and resources needed to get a Food Coop up and running. You will be building a team of volunteers and be responsible for smooth operational delivery. You will also be working in partnership with other new Food Coops and local food enterprises, working together towards creating more resilient community-led local food provision in the borough. The Food Coop is part of a borough-wide project called *Just FACT - a Just Food and Climate
- *Transition*. This is a five-year programme aims to develop environmentally-friendly food system that works better for the happiness, health and wellbeing of communities in Tower Hamlets. *Salary:

- £30,000 pro rata *Hours: *1.5 - 2 days per week *Responsibilities* *Food Coop operations*
- Hands on management of the food coop, ensuring that the Coop delivers fresh food to its customers in the community. Manage stock control, cash handling and food storage.
- Develop close relationships with suppliers, liaising with farms and growers’ groups to increase the Co-op's supplier network and product range.
- Lead on Food Co-op stall set ups and pack downs, in line with health and safety regulations, including moving tables and lifting heavy stock.
- Control project costs, accurately managing stock to reduce waste. *Volunteer and member management*
- Build and develop the team of volunteers
- Promoting volunteering opportunities among the unemployed, socially excluded groups, and the wider community, encouraging a culture of shared learning, inclusiveness, and mutual support
- Ensure that volunteer expenses are documented and authorised, and that project expenditure is in line with the agreed budget.
- Develop a membership offer that could support the financial sustainability of the project. *Partnership working and innovation*
- Build customer base working with partner organisations and leading outreach to build awareness, particularly amongst groups needing access to local fresh, affordable fruit and vegetables e.g., local families on low incomes and vulnerable people.
- Collaborate with other members of the Tower Hamlets Food Coop network, meeting regularly for: peer support, sharing knowledge and skills, co-learning and experimentation around creating a more sustainable enterprise.
- Develop the potential to continue the project beyond year one, exploring different financial models and enterprise opportunities as able, to achieve sustainability. *Monitoring and evaluation*
- Regularly monitor all aspects of the project, developing adequate record-keeping systems, including monitoring Co-op sessions and customer visits, volunteer participation in training, and a central database of partnership contacts.
- Ensure that suitable evaluation and learning data is collected from across the programme to evidence impact, shape the project and fulfil reporting requirements. *Other tasks and duties*
- As the Food Coop is partly funded through the Just FACT programme, you may be occasionally asked to participate in wider programme activities such as partnership meetings. You will be also be expected to deliver the project in line with the overall Just FACT programme values. *Essential experience and knowledge*
- Experience of project coordination/management or operational experience in a related field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- A strong understanding of food and income poverty issues and needs in an inner-city environment and their interaction with health.
- A passion for local fresh, healthy food and strong understanding of food sustainability and environmental issues.
- Knowledge and experience of delivering good practice and training in relation to volunteering programmes.
- A good team player. Able to effectively collaborate with/manage others, and work in partnership.
- Ability to manage own time, to deliver to tight time scales and work under pressure.
- Ability to promote volunteering opportunities in the local community, including producing project publicity (e.g. leaflets and posters) and effectively use social media.
- Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills. Ability to understand colleague and client needs and priorities in a multicultural setting and build relationships.
- Ability to produce and present written reports.
