Job overview

Working with a vision of “delivering excellence in everything we do”, the Matron will work with the Assistant Director of Nursing, Institute Clinical Lead (Education, workforce and Development) and Nurse Staffing Lead, to provide professional leadership, and management of Nursing and Midwifery Recruitment for the Trust.

The Matron will be accountable for scoping national / international best practices, reviewing strategies for recruitment, leading the efficient and effective operational management of local and international and new recruitment pipelines for the nursing and midwifery workforce, and guaranteeing provision of high quality recruitment which will be delivered within a hospital, community and international settings.

The Matron will be a strong clinical leader, easily identifiable, highly visible and accessible to corporate and divisional recruitment leads, divisional nurses, senior midwifery leaders and staff. They will have a particular responsibility to support the developments of HR Governance, and recruitment strategies. They will support Service Improvement, to modernise patient services and reduce the vacancy rate for nursing and midwifery. The post holder will ensure the active involvement of recruitment leads senior nurses and midwives in the way recruitment services and annual recruitment plans are developed, delivered and evaluated.

Main duties of the job

The Matron will provide strong clinical leadership within corporate nursing and the Institute of Care Excellence and be highly visible and accessible to staff, students and other learners. Leading by example he/she will drive up standards of local and international recruitment and have the authority to get the essential components of this right for new staff -ensuring quality in experience, well-being and pastoral support.

The Matron will work in partnership with the Trust HR recruitment team to ensure robust governance systems and processes for recruitment resolving problems and ensuring high standards are maintained throughout, ensuring NUH has a reputation as an employer of choice..

Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria
- Qualified Clinical Practitioner Registered with appropriate regulatory body (NMC, HPC, GMC)
- First degree in Nursing.
- Additional management training or equivalent level of experience
- Good general knowledge of the NHS recruitment processes and current standards within clinical services
- Teaching course or relevant experience

Desirable criteria
- Master’s degree or equivalent post basic training

Experience

Essential criteria
- Experience of leading and delivering programmes of change within an acute or community NHS setting
- Extensive experience of recruitment in a range of settings. Experience of international recruitment processes
- Extensive post registration experience including management and leadership experience
- Knowledge of budgets/financial control

Desirable criteria
- Project management experience
- Clinical governance, Knowledge of complaints management
- Involvement in business planning

Communication and Relationship Skills

Essential criteria
- Excellent communications skills, written and oral
- Ability to build successful teams, ability to influence and motivate staff to deliver challenging targets
- Ability to manage conflict, strong leadership qualities
