**Operations Assistant**

**Holiday **25 plus bank holidays

**Salary **£23,000 to £25,000 (depending on experience)

**Overall Purpose of the Job**

The Operations Assistant is responsible for assisting inthe day to day operation of the social enterprise and supporting the Community, Companions (the people who live at and are supported by
Emmaus) and collectively delivering the objectives of Emmaus Cambridge.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**

Daily supervision of Companions within the social enterprise including areas such as:

- Shop/Emporium
- Warehouse (movement of heavy goods)
- Donations hub
- Textiles processing
- Electrical shop
- Recycling area
- Weekend or midweek markets
- Counter work involving tills/handling cash
- Customer service across all departments
- Provision of training when working alongside companions
- Shared responsibility for:

- Merchandising within the social enterprise
- Coordination of cleaning
- Pricing and selling of donated goods
- Engaging with the public and delivering excellent customer care
- Safe and responsible disposal of unsaleable donations/material
- Till and petty cash reconciliation.
- Demonstrate and promote the concept of ‘solidarity’
- Identification of potentially valuable items for valuation/auction or online sales platforms.
- Assisting with collections and deliveries, which could include fdriving vehicles (vans) as required

Participation in staff meetings and contribution to discussions which help further the objectives of Emmaus Cambridge and help ensure the delivery of the strategic plan
- Attendance at meetings and liaising with and building relationships with external agencies, as required
- Performing any other tasks or duties deemed necessary by the Chief Operating Officer and
- Chief Executive
- Undertaking ‘on call’ duties as required

**Community support activities**
- Active involvement in community and support of companions. This includes notifying support workers of companions daily activities and raising of any concerns, which may involve supporting with disciplinary action.
- Assisting with the integration of Companions into Social Enterprise.
- Supporting with monitoring, in accordance with community licence agreements, which may involve including random drug testing and use of breathalyser
- Ensuring the ethos of Emmaus and its values are adhered to.

**General**

Emmaus Cambridge works with vulnerable people who have either experienced homelessness or have been at risk of homelessness. The people we support are called companions and live on our site at

Landbeach Cambridge.

The role is integral in helping companions find their purpose in life by providing a safe, secure home and crucial work experience across the multiple areas of the social enterprise. The work experience provides structure and is a vital tool which enables companions to build confidence and develop new skills. Alongside donations and fundraising, the social enterprise generates funds to enable the work of

Emmaus Cambridge to continue and support the many acts of solidarity which directly benefit peoples in the community.

Supervision, will involve leading by example and positive reinforcement of good practice.

As a small local charity, it is essential that a good reputation is maintained, and this is supported by a selection of policies and procedures and excellent team involving volunteers, companions, colleagues and trustees. An appreciation for understanding professional boundaries is key as our work is undertaken is a location, which is a combination of residential and commercial.

Emmaus Cambridge is passionate about sending less to landfill and we act in an environmentally aware manner. Our aim is to ensure all resources are utilised effectively and efficiently, optimising income where possible through appropriate level pricing and recycling.

As highlighted volunteers are a vital resource and make a valuable and essential contribution and supervision will extend to include encouragement, development and support of this important group.
