**About The Role**:
The RAC has an exciting opportunity for an experienced **PR professional, with an interest in public affairs, to join its highly successful Bristol-based Press Office team as PR and Public Affairs Officer. **The permanent role will be delivered on a** flexible hybrid model of working three days from home and two days at the RAC’s iconic Bradley Stoke office on the edge of the M5.**

In this crucial dual role you will work to enhance the RAC’s reputation through media relations and help manage and deliver a robust public affairs programme that maintains lines of communication with government and other key stakeholders that enables the RAC to stay ahead of emerging issues and lobby for change on behalf of drivers.

This is an opportunity to join a highly media coverage-driven team that prides itself on leading the motoring agenda and doing the best for its members and drivers.

Alongside producing both proactive news releases and reacting to breaking news stories, you will play a vital role in monitoring motoring developments in Parliament and liaising with government departments to maintain the RAC’s influence at the highest level.

**What you’ll do**
- Research, plan and write future media content and sell in and issue
- Help deliver consistently high-quality written press material that results in positive, on-message coverage in national, regional and online media
- Draft reactive statements and comments in response to the ever-changing motoring news agenda
- Help defend the RAC’s trusted good name and brand as required
- Monitor and identify key national government consultations that the RAC should respond to so as to protect business interests and influence policy on behalf of drivers
- Maintain a record of our external policy positions on key driving-related issues to ensure PR message consistency
- Identify MPs who are interested in issues that are central to the RAC’s agenda and, if necessary, engage with their teams to influence
- Manage an up-to-date stakeholder contact management system in order to keep a record of who we liaise with and build external relations with

**What you’ll need**
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills
- Ability to understand and manage media, both in proactive and reactive circumstances
- Good track record in delivering positive media coverage
- Passion for achieving excellent results and creating stories that seek to influence
- Interest in the political agenda, politicians and policymakers and how government works
- Interest in motoring policy such as fuel prices, transition to electric vehicles, potholes and road safety
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
