Flooding represents a crucial challenge both now and into the future as the impacts of climate change become apparent. Having a strategic overview of all sources of flooding, the Environment Agency has a key role in shaping our response to this challenge moving forwards.
- Working as a Flood and Coastal Risk Management Officer in the Partnerships and Strategic Overview Team, you will be working at the very heart of this organisation, helping to protect people and property from flooding.
- Responsibilities will include:
- The collection, analysis, and interpretation of flood data to support project development.
- Positively working with our customers and partners in supporting the provision of flood risk information.
- Supporting our senior advisors with the development of our flood risk management projects or supporting other Risk Management Authorities [RMAs] in the development of their projects.
- Developing and maintaining good internal and external working relationship for the benefit of improving flood risk management outcomes.
- Taking part in incident management when flooding occurs.
You'll be based at an EA office, however we are adopting new ways of working allowing some flexibility to work from home. The team
- The Partnership and Strategic Overview teams focus on four areas - evidence (data, modelling and mapping), strategic overview and planning (overview of flood risk from all sources and tactical direction), project development and delivery (including with other RMAs) and regulation (e.g., planning consultations and environmental permits). We aim to create more resilient catchments so flooding causes less harm to people, results in less damage and those affected can return to normal more quickly.
Experience/skills required
- We are looking for people with experience of working within the flood and coastal risk management sector looking to move onto the next stage of their career. You’ll have:
- A good understanding of the impact of flooding including how rivers and catchments work.
- An ability to work on your own initiative, in teams and with customers using good communication skills to develop and maintain relationships.
- Good problem solving capabilities including developing innovative solutions.
- A track record of delivering work by planning, tracking, gathering, and maintaining data/information.
- A desire to lead your own learning and development including support the development of others.
- Flexible to the needs of the organisation and open to new ways of working.
- A good working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) would be desirable.
We offer many fully funded opportunities to develop further academic/professional qualifications.
Contact and additional information
- In East Anglia we want to create a diverse workplace where individuals are respected, valued and listened to. We’re all different, and by embracing Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) we can become an equal opportunity employer where we grow and learn together.
- It is our ambition to champion diversity through building a workforce as diverse as the communities we serve.- 07733 012988
