B3 - Carer Peer Support Worker with the Eating Disorders Specialist Service

An exciting new opportunity has arisen to join our team, based in Shrewsbury.

Do you have a personal experience of being a carer for a loved one with an eating disorder?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual who will be able to share wisdom, from their own experiences, to inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible in others.

As a carer peer support worker you will be a valued member of the MPFT Eating Disorder service working alongside a highly skilled multi-disciplinary team.

You will feel able to share relevant personal experiences and draw on insights and skills developed through your own journey as a carer to come alongside the loved ones of people accessing MPFT eating disorder services on a one-to-one and group basis.

Having personal experience of caring for a loved one with an eating disorder is an essential requirement for this post. By “personal experience” we mean this experience has been gained outside of your employment as a paid carer, support worker or clinical member of staff. We would very much encourage you to reflect this, alongside your other skills, attributes, and experiences, when thinking about how you meet the requirements of the role.

The role of Eating Disorders Carer Peer Support Worker (PSW) has been developed specifically for people who have personal lived experience of supporting a loved one experiencing an eating disorder.

As an integral and highly valued member of the multi-disciplinary team, the Eating Disorders Carer PSW will provide formalised peer support and practical assistance to carers/loved ones in order for them to regain control over their lives and their own unique recovery journey as a carer/loved one of an individual accessing Eating Disorder Services.

Within a relationship of mutuality, they will facilitate and support information sharing to promote choice, self-determination, and opportunities for the fulfilment of socially valued roles and connection to local communities.

As a core member of a busy multi-disciplinary team, the Eating Disorders Carer PSW will work alongside carers and loved ones of individuals accessing Eating Disorder Services on a 1:1 basis and in a group setting. The Eating Disorders Carer PSW will also have the opportunity to co-work with other colleagues.

The Eating Disorders Carer PSW will also work with the Wellbeing and Recovery College in order to deliver local courses to increase awareness and understanding of eating disorders and how to support a loved one experiencing an eating disorder.

By joining Team MPFT, you will be helping your communities and in return for this, we will support you by;
Supporting your career development and progression

Up to 27 days annual leave (increasing with service up to 33 days) and the opportunity to purchase additional leave
