You’re on your way to making a difference to people’s lives as a healthcare support worker.

We’re looking to recruit passionate and committed individuals to our team within Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin. As a healthcare support worker, you will play an integral role in helping to patients on their journey back to health, doing everything from taking blood samples to making them comfortable and at ease, across a variety of settings.

Your day-to-day duties will vary depending on which part of the NHS you’re working in.

**For example, your responsibilities could include**:

- Helping patients to move around
- Monitoring patients and performing basic health checks
- Making patients feel comfortable
- Washing and dressing patients
- Serving meals and helping to feed patients.
- Taking blood samples
- Processing lab samples
- Restocking consulting rooms

**Responsible to**: Nurse Manager

**Purpose**: Provide support and assist the multidisciplinary team in delivering all aspect of health care directly to patients and service users

Aim of the role
- Delivering high quality care as part of the care team using a person-centred approach
- Ensuring the individual needs of patients and service users are met, providing opportunities for individuals to use their skills and enhance their quality of life, whilst maintaining their independence and privacy.

Main duties and responsibilities
Personal Care & Support
- To encourage and promote patients and service users to reach their maximum level of independence, wherever possible undertaking these tasks for themselves. This may include: - Help with mobility
- Help with toileting & washing
- Help with dressing
- To provide all aspects of personal care to patients and service users using a person-centred approach. This may include: - Assist with pressure care and simple dressings
- Assist with nutritional and hydration needs
- Assist with occupational rehabilitation
- Accurately undertake and record patient observations reporting any abnormalities immediately in a verbal, written and digital capacity as required
- Escort patients to other departments or areas for treatment, investigation or rehabilitative purposes.
- To help to create a warm, restful and friendly environment
- To build and maintain good relationships with patients/service users and their relatives, displaying good communication & listening skills, to ensure they are provided with an effective communication network.
- Provide clinical administration to the team. This may include: - Assembling nursing documentation
- Assisting with admission and discharge of patients and service users
- Answering telephone, relay messages accurately and promptly, answer general enquiries by visitors
- Maintaining, monitoring and restocking stores and equipment
- Ensure that service user confidentiality & dignity is maintained at all times, ensuring information is not shared or divulged with anyone not authorized to receive it.

Teamwork
- To work effectively as part of a team, actively supporting other team members, whilst also being self-motivated to work on own initiative & without direct supervision.
- To be able to work under pressure.
- To participate in appropriate training and be committed to ongoing personal & professional development.
- To promptly report any information, issues or concerns regarding the care, support, wellbeing or behaviour of
