National Grid is set to launch the Great Grid Upgrade Partnership, an opportunity for supply chain partners to help National Grid deliver the largest overhaul of the electricity grid in generations. Our new Strategic Infrastructure (SI) business unit has been set up to deliver 17 new major projects, working collaboratively with selected Design & Consenting and Construction partners to design and deliver c£4.5billion of network construction by 2030.

**About the role**:
In this role you will be the voice of the consumer within one or more of our project development and delivery teams, each of which is responsible for delivering a capital project of between £100m and many £bns in value.
The successful delivery of the portfolio of projects in the next few years is critical to achieving National Grid’s transition to Net Zero and the team will be key to this. Acting as a critical friend, you will help our project teams strike the right balance between different priorities (especially cost and time), to allow us to maximise the value we deliver for our customers and ensure that the business is adequately funded so that we can continue to invest.
You would also be accountable for managing the project specific external interfaces for NGET, primary with our regulator Ofgem, but also working to support relationships with other stakeholders, potentially including Government departments, Distribution Network Operators and other Transmission Owners.
As part of this, you will support our major project delivery units to secure allowances to progress business critical projects, ensuring successful funding submissions can be made to Ofgem. You will ensure that we have a regulatory plan for the project and that the project understands its regulatory risks. You will act as the first line of assurance that the funding submissions we draft are of high quality, robust, well-evidenced and comply with regulatory expectations.
As part of the wider Commercial, Regulation and Supply Chain team, you will advise NGET project teams on their regulatory obligations and risks, building on expert technical advice from elsewhere in the team. You will support the wider team to advise on the relationships between regulatory, commercial and supply chain issues. You will take the lead on regulatory issues and requirements for your projects, including proactively highlight regulatory risks to projects, to ensure better outcomes for NGET and our stakeholders.
In addition, Senior Partners will proactively support their colleagues in the team to grow their expertise and to develop the skillsets necessary to perform in the role. Senior Partners will also work independently to lead the development of solutions to complex consumer value or regulatory challenges which cross over multiple projects, coordinating colleagues and external stakeholders and providing thought leadership.
**Key Accountabilities**:
You will be educated to degree level in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Economics, Business or related discipline or have an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience and have relevant industry experience. You will also have:
- Extensive experience of working in a UK Regulated environment.
- Experience of leading complex processes to drive choices on complex value trade-offs, for example: in corporate strategy, in mergers and acquisitions, by acting as a regulator, in development of business cases for large capital projects or an equivalent role.
- Experience of leading successful engagements with challenging and demanding external stakeholders on issues of substantial importance to your employer’s future business.
- An ability to work independently to bring together and drive ad-hoc teams to solve complex problems related to value or to regulatory submissions.
- A knowledge and awareness of at least some of the value drivers for Electricity Transmission reinforcements (as above).
- Strong experience of steering virtual teams of senior stakeholders (including teams you don’t lead) to ensure they deliver business critical outcomes.
