- Requisition Number: 53290- Department:
- Job Function: Strategy**About us**:
Our Vision is to be at the heart of a clean, fair and affordable energy future.
National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) is at the heart of energy in the UK. We’re working to build a fairer and more affordable energy system, with Whole System at the heart of this approach. Energy is vital to every aspect of our lives. We use it to light and heat our homes, to power our computers and phones, to keep us connected with work and loved ones. We rely on it to keep us safe, to keep our hospitals running, our schools open and our water flowing. But as we look to the future, we must make the shift towards cleaner, renewable energy to both power and preserve our world.
As a nation, we’re working towards the goal of net zero carbon by 2050. At National Grid, we’re committed to helping Britain reach this target by building a cleaner, greener energy system. But we can’t do this alone. We're looking for people who are brimming with enthusiasm and bursting with ideas to help us build and run a cleaner energy system for the future. Are you up for the challenge?
**About the role**:
This role exists to provide technical leadership on economic regulation in practice to our Strategic Infrastructure business unit. In this role, you will be accountable for creating the systems and processes that allow us to ensure that we comply with our licence and related obligations. You will work independently to develop your own and the organisation’s collective competence in complying with regulatory expectations and requirements. You will achieve this by providing guidance, by maintaining processes, systems and templates and by reviewing our plans and submissions.
You will guide the business unit by providing advice on how to successfully comply with licence requirements, primarily via your colleagues in the wider Consumer Value and Regulatory Support team. You will also collaborate with colleagues elsewhere in the National Grid group of companies to build excellence in regulatory compliance across our regulated business, including building an understanding of compliance frameworks across National Grid Electricity Transmission plc.
You will be responsible for maintaining and improving our regulatory governance and compliance processes, systems and templates. After consultation with our legal experts, you will ensure that these will allow us to successfully meet our regulator’s demands. In collaboration with colleagues in regulatory teams, you will ensure that we are set up to meet their expectations as a stakeholder.
By shaping successful processes and systems and by guiding your colleagues work over each our of projects lifetimes, you will ensure that we can systematically evidence to our regulator that we have delivered optimal consumer value through twenty or more large capital projects, each of between £100m and many £bns in value.
Your advice and counsel will enable our delivery units to secure the regulatory allowances they require in order to progress business critical projects, by ensuring successful funding submissions can be and are made to Ofgem. You will also play an important assurance role in ensuring that our plans and submissions to Ofgem are robust, sufficiently well-evidenced and comply with regulatory requirements.
The successful delivery of the portfolio of projects in the next few years is critical to achieving National Grid’s transition to Net Zero and your work will be key to this.
**About you**:
You will be educated to degree level in an Economics, Legal, Science, Technology, Engineering or related discipline or have an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience and have relevant economic regulation experience.
You will also have:
- A track record of providing regulatory expertise to a business regulated by a UK economic regulator (e.g. Ofgem, Ofwat or Ofcom).
- Extensive experience in interpreting the intent behind and ensuring compliance with regulatory policy, licence drafting and regulatory guidance.
- A deep and through understanding of UK regulatory practice and an ability to quickly understand UK network regulation, should you not already be familiar with it.
It is not essential that you have a background in UK Transmission, though experience of regulated networks and/or of ensuring compliance with Ofgem regulation would be an advantage.
**What's in it for you?**:
A competitive salary between £80,000 - £95,000 - dependent on capability
As well as your base salary, you will receive a company car or allowance, a bonus of up to 20% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
