Job Introduction

We’re looking for an exceptional Internal Communications and Engagement Lead to help us make a difference to our planet.

As our Internal Communications and Engagement Lead, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work.

Our opportunity is full time, 37 hours per week, however we may consider applicants wishing to work flexibly, while meeting business needs. Our people are at the heart of what we do and we'll do our best to agree a working pattern that works for everyone.

Whilst this is a temporary position until August 2025, there is potential for it to develop into a permanent position.

**Your world of expertise**

As our Internal Communications and Engagement Lead, you will be responsible for strategic leadership of all internal communications within the Met Office. Leading and managing the Internal Communications and Engagement team, you will ensure the effective delivery of internal communications approaches and activities that engage staff, build trust and create a shared identity in line with our values and purpose.

You will play a key part in ensuring the Met Office is a great place to work for current and future employees, helping to create a work environment where people can thrive, encouraging a strong employee voice, ensuring that all employees know about changes, executive decisions and organisation initiatives and the reasons behind them.

**Your key duties**
- Responsible for defining our approach to internal communications and embedding it consistently across the Met Office, delivering internal campaigns, projects and initiatives in line with business objectives.
- Provide internal communications advice and counsel to the Executive and wider Extended Leadership Team, with a specific responsibility with engaging with senior leaders on our corporate strategy and narrative.
- Provide strategic direction on the development of our internal communications channel matrix.
- Provide leadership and line management of Internal Comms and Engagement team agreeing stretching objectives and improving professional skills and knowledge for the benefit of the individual and the team.
- Play an active role in the Communications and Engagement leadership team, ensuring that internal communications and engagement activities are aligned and contribute to the overall Met Office Communications and Engagement strategy.
- Develop opportunities to empower employee voice through appropriate mechanisms and processes that actively respond to employee feedback.
- Identify and manage internal comms and engagement risks and actively seek opportunities to address and mitigate them.
- Develop and deliver a programme of continuous improvement in internal communications and engagement across the Met Office.
- Establish and maintain relationship with external industry and government contact such as Arm’s-length bodies.

As our Internal Communications and Engagement Lead, your total reward package will be up to £72,530 annually, which includes:

- £52,799 base pay
- An outstanding Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 27%
- Annual Leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years and option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave
