**Overview of project/role**

As a Diversity & Inclusion Specialist you will make a tangible difference to millions of customers each day.

You’ll be responsible for helping to make our services more equitable, accessible and inclusive by helping to remove barriers to travel.

In this role you’ll to help shape customer-focused projects, policies and service changes through an equality, diversity and inclusion lens. You will also be responsible for managing projects and processes to drive continuous improvement.

**Key Accountabilities**
- Take forward and develop equality & inclusion initiatives to enable better legislative compliance with TfL's duties under the Equality Act 2010 and inclusive delivery of the Mayor's Transport strategy. Develop medium and longer term strategies and plans to change culture and drive continuous improvement, producing business cases as required
- Support the implementation of best practice in the area of D&I to support business objectives, aligning systems, processes, monitoring and culture to support organisational goals
- Manage D&I governance, committees and consultants, including budgets, contracts and procurement processes
- Proactively identify key issues / risks affecting customers with protected characteristics, working with our Independent Disability Advisory Group, other equality specialists, and EQIA Superusers to identify risks and deliver solutions
- Support organisational decision-making by undertaking reviews and quality assurance of Equality Impact Assessments (EQIAs),Integrated Impact Assessments (IIAs), tender documents, contracts, Mayoral Decision papers, business plans, transport strategies and other relevant materials to ensure equality considerations are sufficiently robust
- Design and carry out communications and engagement approaches internally to raise understanding, build capability, influence change and gain buy in for the work of the D&I Customer team across every level of the business
- Manage other team members and/or consultants, coaching, developing, motivating, empowering as required

- Ability to provide credible and expert accessibility and inclusion advice to colleagues related to public transport, walking and cycling **(Essential)**:

- Ability to identify and evaluate options, solve problems and support colleagues to make rational, evidence-based, customer-focused decisions involving difficult trade-offs. **(Essential)**:

- Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to build understanding, present convincing arguments, drive consideration for diverse customers, challenge mind-sets and obtain buy in. **(Essential)**:

- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build solid, long-term relationships with people at all levels across the organisation. The ability to manage stakeholders with conflicting views. **(Essential)**

**Knowledge**
- Excellent knowledge of the issues, barriers and benefits related to customers with different protected characteristics as well as wider groups who may be marginalised in society **(Essential)**:

- A good understanding of the Mayor's Transport Strategy as it relates to diversity and inclusion **(Desirable)**:

- A good understanding of external developments, models, best practice in diversity and inclusion **(Essential)**:

- A good understanding of how to operationalise equality, diversity and inclusion from theory to practice **(Desirable)**

**Experience**
- Experience of working in a diversity and inclusion environment within a complex organisation with proven ability to deliver organisantion-wide changes to support the diversity and inclusion agenda. **(Essential)**:

- Experience working on equality, diversity and inclusion initiatives within a transport, built environment or public sector context **(Essential)**:

- Experience of thinking strategically and looking at long-term goals **(Desirable)**:

- Experience of designing, commissioning, delivering, communicating inclusion training, standards and/or guidance **(Essential)**:

- Experience of working with external experts or consultants to strengthen decision-making **(Desirable)**:

- Experience of liaising with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels of seniority **(Essential)**
