Senior Rural Surveyor

Remote, United Kingdom Tenant Farmers Association Full time

**About us**

The TFA has been advancing the cause of the tenanted sector of agriculture since its formation in 1981. It has grown to be the most influential organisation representing the interests of tenant farmers both individually and as a sector. Through its advice, information and support, the TFA has guided many of its members to positive outcomes in their dealings with their landlords and with Government departments, statutory agencies and other institutions. Recently, the TFA has been successful in securing positive changes to legislation for tenant farmers in both England and Wales, worked with DEFRA and the Welsh Government to ensure that their newly developed schemes give fair access for tenant farmers and was central to the creation and development of the Rock Review into agricultural tenancies which is now forming the basis of Government policy in England for the tenanted sector.

The Senior Rural Surveyor role is unique because it will provide the opportunity to combine several fulfilling functions. This includes the provision of one-to-one advice to TFA members through their membership of the Association, professionally representing and acting for TFA members through the TFA’s not-for-profit TFAplus service, advocating on behalf of members and the sector as a whole at the highest levels and working with the TFA’s Chief Executive to drive the Association forward. The Senior Rural Surveyor can expect to be given a high level of exposure within a short period of time after taking up the role.

We are looking for someone with at least five years post qualification (MRICS or FAAV) experience as a rural surveyor and with significant private practice experience in both negotiation and dispute resolution.

You must share the ethos of the Tenant Farmers Association, demonstrating empathy with TFA members and using that as a basis for helping them thrive and develop their businesses.

We want someone who has the confidence to advise, support and advocate on behalf of tenant farmers and who will be comfortable in dealing with negotiations and in resolving disputes both formally and informally.

You will be highly self-motivated and demonstrate an ability to provide a high-quality service for TFA members whether you are providing them with advice or acting on their behalf under TFAplus.

You will have a drive to seek and develop opportunities to embed the benefits of TFAplus throughout the membership of the TFA.

We need a team player who can work collegiately and inspire and support the existing team of TFA Rural Surveyors.

**Tasks**:

- Driving forward the Association’s TFAplus service where TFA rural surveyors represent and act for members on a chargeable basis. The Senior Rural Surveyor will be expected to spend at least 20% of their time involved in chargeable work on behalf of members.
- Managing and mentoring the other TFA Rural Surveyors including monitoring workloads, planning training and opportunities for CPD.
- Coordinating and providing advice, information and support to TFA members.
- Working alongside the TFA’s Chief Executive to enhance the Association’s policy impact including its lobbying, governance and scope.
- Deputising for the Chief Executive when required.
- Producing and updating advisory publications for TFA members including Guidance Notes, Briefing Notes and contributing to regular TFA webinars, newsletters and e-briefings.
- Keeping TFA staff and officers informed of major issues and problems being reported by members.
- Speaking at meetings arranged by the Association and at meetings arranged by other bodies.
- Representing the TFA in meetings and discussions with outside bodies including Government Departments and Agencies.

Employment Details:

- The role is offered on a full-time basis starting in the early part of 2024.
- The location of the role is flexible. Mainly home working, hybrid working, or full office working are all options to be discussed. However, whichever option is agreed, some office time will be required and travel across England and Wales will be a requirement.
- You will report to the TFA’s Chief Executive and will have line management responsibility for the other TFA surveyors.
- Professional fees (RICS and CAAV) will be paid by the TFA as will costs of training and CPD.
- You will be expected to attend meetings at the TFA Head Office and elsewhere.
- Holiday entitlement will be 25 days per year (taken at times agreeable to the Association) together with all English Public and Bank Holidays.
- Unless you decide to opt out, you will be auto-enrolled into the TFA Workplace Pension.
