An opportunity has arisen within the trauma and orthopaedic department for an experienced, enthusiastic nurse to become a band 6 Trauma Co-ordinator working at Pilgrim Hospital.

The aim is to provide cover 7 days a week to new trauma patients and ensure they are managed and treated within a timely manner.

The role demands that you work alongside the orthopaedic nursing team and support the on-call orthopaedic surgical team in the assessment and admission of orthopaedic trauma patients includes planning a programme of care for patients from admission to theatre and beyond.

The post holder will ideally have a minimum of two years orthopaedic experience at band 5 within a trauma or orthopaedic environment. Extended roles such as ECG, cannulation and venepuncture are desirable.

It is essential that the applicant have management and organisational skills, with a calm and professional manner when dealing with the often stressful service demands. They should be proactively managing and helping to develop the orthopaedic trauma services.

Applicants are expected to be flexible in working long days and early shifts including weekends but not nights.

Please note this position will not commence until April 1st or after.
- To be responsible for the co-ordination of the multi-disciplinary team input surrounding patients admitted under the care of the on-call orthopaedic team.
- Ensure patients receive appropriate treatment in a timely manner in line with trust policy and guidelines of best practice.
- To provide and maintain high standards of clinical and nursing care within the orthopaedic speciality and lead in the audit of evidence based outcomes.
- To support the trauma ward, A&E, theatres and fracture clinic in the successful management of patients between the departments.
- To undertake specialist investigations and analyse the results to support the examining clinicians.
- To ensure patients on the virtual fracture clinic are followed up appropriately and complete telephone calls for patients that do not require face to face appointments
- To support and work closely with the nursing team in the Trauma assessment unit
