GM Cancer Alliance is expanding the Cancer Academy team. We are looking to appoint a Practice Educator that will provide essential strategic direction and operational leadership to the Academy team in designing, delivering, and developing education.

The postholder will lead the development of sub-speciality specific capability frameworks that align to the National multi-professional ACCEND framework. The project includes expanding the ePortfolio (both in content and uptake) to promote workforce retention.

Working with key forums and stakeholders across the Greater Manchester Integrated Care System to support the operationalisation of clinical skills labs will be essential along with scoping training needs of the workforce and assessing educational impact.

The post is part-time (0.2 WTE) and is fixed term until March 2024. Secondment requests will be considered.

The Cancer Academy Practice Educator will support the Senior Programme Lead for Education and Cancer Academy Director to:

- Lead the development of multi-disciplinary capability frameworks for the non-medical workforce across a variety of pathways that align with ACCEN
- Lead the operationalisation of clinical skills labs across GM and associated competency framework
- Support the on-going role out and uptake of the ePortfolio to provide a central place for learners to store assessments, accreditations, certificates and personal and professional development record
- Recruit a small cohort of healthcare professionals & trainers (from each care setting) to pilot the suite of education offers and assessments, and evaluate the impact
- Act as the link between the Academy and other ePortfolio / passport projects such as GM Primary Care Passports, Hospice Palliative Care Passports, ACCEND Portfolio, AO passport, and others.- Support the development of scoping activities to identify gaps in knowledge to ensure all education and training delivered is driven by workforce need
- Engaging with relevant stakeholders to embrace ACCEND framework and promote end to end career learning
- Establish mechanisms for evaluating the effectiveness of different educational offers

Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance (GM Cancer) is a venture that brings together patients, charities, NHS and academic institutions with the aim of securing world-class cancer outcomes and experience for our population. Greater Manchester Cancer is the cancer programme of the Greater Manchester Integrated Care Board.

The GM Cancer Academy is a Programme of work within the Workforce and Education Programme. The team are dynamic, diligent, and passionate about supporting the cancer workforce to ensure they have equitable access to training and education to develop the right skills to respond to the needs of people affected by cancer, adapt to new, improved ways of working, continue to modernise the way they work, and embrace technology to deliver the best quality healthcare.

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of cancer workforce and education in Greater Manchester, and to essentially improve outcomes for people affected by cancer.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Cancer Academy Practice Educator will support the programme to:
Planning and Organising
- Input and contribute to the strategic development of the cancer academy education offers
- Support the development of scoping activities to identify gaps in knowledge to ensure all education and training delivered is driven by workforce need
- Establish & refine the workplace-based delivery of content to complement the formal learning offerings; i.e. trainer & mentor development, workplace learning culture, and, workplace-based competency assessment
- Plan and organise a broad range of complex activities associated with the academy deliverables including internal and external events / workshops, within and across different geographical boundaries
- Lead the development of future business cases / proposals to capitalise on funding opportunities available to support further academy developments
- Make dynamic adjustments to project plans to ensure key milestones are met
- Ensure that planned aims of the project are aligned to national initiatives and sequenced to correspond with agreed timescales
- Hold others to account, in line with agreed milestone plans and delivery targets, identifying risks and initiating remedial actions

Leadership and expertise
- Lead the development of multi-disciplinary capability frameworks for the non-medical workforce across a variety of pathways that align with ACCEND
- Lead/co-lead the development and implementation of innovative and creative training programmes and educational material to support learners across GM in clinical environments across all care settings
- Lead the operationalisation of clinical skills labs across GM and associated competency frameworks
- Support the coordination and development of cross-setting educational packages
- Support other cancer pathways to adopt the ACCEN
