There has never been a more exciting time to be working in active travel and Active Travel England (ATE) is at the forefront of this high-profile agenda. ATE will deliver the Prime Minister’s ambitious plan to enable half of all journeys in England’s towns and cities to be walked or cycled by 2030.
**Job description**:
Active Travel England was established following the government’s commitment of £2 billion for cycling and walking over this parliament. The HR team in ATE will be key to supporting the end-to-end people agenda. This is an exciting role and will offer a breadth of opportunity across multiple HR disciplines.
Within the Chief Operating Office Group, you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that covers, HR, Finance, Communications, PMO and Investments. We are at the heart of everything ATE does and ensuring that the Agency is successful in delivering its objectives.
You will be an important member of the HR team within ATE, delivering strategic HR solutions to create a diverse and inclusive workforce. By providing support across multiple HR disciplines including, strategic workforce planning, resourcing, diversity and inclusion, policy, learning and talent development, you will ensure high quality human resource management is embedded throughout the business.
You will have strong stakeholder management and influencing skills to provide advice, challenge and scrutiny to senior colleagues. You will ensure that HR initiatives support and align to the Department for Transport Group HR Model and wider Civil Service strategy. You will support senior managers in leading and managing their staff through all activities of the employee lifecycle, using appropriate HR interventions.

- Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:_
- Work with the business to help them understand the people strategy and plan and gather intelligence to inform the development of that strategy and plan.
- Develop strong and influential relationships with a range of stakeholders, to identify local business issues relating to all HR disciplines, which require a HR solution. Support the HR Business Partner in the implementation of those solutions.
- Manage distinct HR projects, and instinctively build in the HR and business metrics to be able to quantify impact.
- Analyse HR management information to inform business intelligence and implement actions to continuously improve the business.

**About you**
We are seeking a proactive individual, who can use their initiative to provide a breadth of HR services to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
You can negotiate, consult and collaborate with key stakeholders, enabling you to secure their confidence, allowing you to build strong and influential relationships.
You can use data and evidence to make decisions on a variety of HR related issues and influence others. You enjoy working with and interpreting data, you can present data to create and present evidence -based insight and recommendations.

**Additional information**
A minimum of 40% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.
