2. JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust has embarked upon an ambitious Digital programme with a key objective to improve its service to patients. This programme is underpinned by Information Technology and the delivery of a range of digital solutions. The Trusts commitment to this programme includes the implementation of a number of internally developed and externally procured Digital solutions.

It is necessary to introduce new, or expand existing, Digital solutions/systems into complex clinical environments which often span multiple departmental and organisational boundaries within the Region. The National Pathology Imaging Co-operative (NPIC) programme, a £100m+ initiative supported by central funding from NHS England, Innovate UK and the Office for Life Sciences. NPIC has the ambition to provide a national platform to support pathology services. The ambitions of the programme include: 1) Driving clinical use of digital pathology nationally and providing a platform to support this; 2) Designing, building and maintaining a platform for the development of artificial intelligence and the evaluation of the AI lifecycle, and; 3) Providing a platform for further research & innovation and maximising the platform to facilitate this.

The post holder will play a key role in the delivery of high-quality digital pathology services. This role requires an individual who is driven, ambitious and passionate about patient care, and who has a desire to influence at the highest levels working in close partnership with senior clinical and managerial staff. They will need to lead the development, and drive to deliver NPICs Deployment Strategy, ensuring this facilitates and maximises capability and productivity at all levels throughout the organisations involved within the programme. To champion, lead, develop and manage the Northern and National Delivery & Operational teams to become a high performing, fully integrated and professional team.

The post-holder will be responsible for reviewing, identifying and implementing opportunities to improve service delivery, consistency, robustness and effectiveness across the organisation enabling it to become the system of choice for Pathologists nationally. To develop and maintain a data & technology strategy to help facilitate future ambitions to support digital transformation across pathology services and work in collaboration with the NPIC Deployment Director & Programme Director of NPIC to ensure the seamless delivery of the digital roadmap. To lead on the delivery and on-going support of a modern and future focussed Digital Pathology System used across a national footprint, maximising the benefit from innovative techniques and technology, and supporting a strategy to ensure the programme stays at the leading edge of the use of informatics technologies. To provide exemplar technical and professional advise and support to the programme, working across the organisation and with a wide range of external organisations including other local, regional and national NHS organisations and other partners to deliver the digital pathology strategy.

Working closely with all senior managers, clinical leaders and support functions to facilitate the deployment and use of digital pathology at scale across the country. To deputise for the NPIC Deployment Director as required, providing the necessary level of inspiring leadership, expert professional advice, operational and technical support at project board meetings, when working with the senior management and leadership team or within the Programme; and in situations involving networking groups or external organisations such as regulators, professional advisors, staff representative bodies, commissioners, partners, National NHS organisations, the Department of Health, the Office of Life Sciences and UK Research and Innovation. 4. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY Manage the Digital Pathology Delivery functions of NPIC - namely the Digital Pathology Northern Deployment; Digital Pathology National Deployment; Programme Management Office and Other Project Management teams to ensure all staff meet the requirements of their post.

Responsible for developing the Digital Pathology Delivery Service in line with the project plan and milestones. Responsible for the deployment and operation of the National Digital Pathology Solution which captures information for several NHS Trusts nationally. The post holder will be guided by organisational or broad occupational policies but in most situations the post holder will need to establish the way in which these should be interpreted. Responsible for developing and managing the budget for the deployment and ongoing provision of the digital pathology platform.
