You will be hosted by Natural England, working on behalf of the Partners in the Protected Landscapes Partnership.

Job description

Do you have strong data analysis skills along with the ability to interpret and present data and feed into compelling communications? If working with England’s finest landscapes and trails; our Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs), National Parks, and National Trails to audit and collate existing data and develop shared evidence appeals to you, then working as the first Evidence Coordinators within the new Protected Landscape Partnership will offer you fantastic opportunities to play your part in creating a better future for protected landscapes.

The National Association for Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (NAAONB), National Parks England (NPE), National Trails UK (NTUK) and Natural England (NE) are coming together in partnership to create more collaborative ways of working that amplifies the impact and influence of our organisations towards our common goals.

The Protected Landscapes Partnership (PLP) recognises that we are in the throes of global nature, climate, and well-being emergencies. In response, the partnership will collaborate closely, building a strong evidence base to support the delivery of national priorities for nature recovery, climate change mitigation and adaptation, health and wellbeing, equity of access and thriving local communities.

This role will work across the partner organisations and alongside a Nature Recovery Lead and three co-ordinators to establish a shared approach to evidence and contribute to the role of the designated landscapes in contributing to the Government commitment to protect 30% of land and seas by 2030 and deliver the Government’s emerging Outcomes Framework.

Principal accountability/key tasks

Role 1 (data focus) would include:

- Audit of existing data available for Protected Landscapes linking especially to government’s Environment Act and 30x30 targets, and the wider Defra & NE Outcomes Framework, identifying data and evidence gaps; this includes a range of ecological data as well as social indicators to support the EDI Lead and our EDI workstream objectives
- Collate existing data to cut to the boundaries of protected landscapes and share in a consistent way.
- Collate a list of new data needs from the various protected landscapes and identify opportunities to address these
- Application of data, tools and techniques to develop models and mapped outputs in support of Partners’ agreed needs and objectives as well as government’s targets and objectives
- Use historical data to identify key trends
- Support partnership projects with the appropriate data and evidence to deliver and monitor outputs

Role 2 (use of evidence and building capacity) would include:

- Presenting data and evidence to further the aims of the Protected Landscapes Partnership
- Develop and present/promote communications materials arising from the analysis of data and evidence
- Work closely with partners to develop a shared format for evidence
- Lead the co-ordination and preparation of evidence reviews as directed by the Partnership Manager
- Work with partners to identify skill gaps across the Partnership building capability and identifying and implementing appropriate training
- Build into the Partnership’s programme appropriate use of monitoring and in particular citizen science techniques
