An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Ward Clerk, preferably with some previous administration experience to work within Elective Orthopaedics at the Leicester General Hospital.

The applicant needs to have computer skills, good communication skills and experience of working in a team.

You will be the first point of contact when patients and visitors arrive onto our Ward, and will undertake such duties as maintaining a clean and tidy environment, keeping our patient centre system up to date, including admission transfers and discharges of patients, taking responsibility for inpatient / outpatient notes, answering telephone calls and queries from clients, relatives and members of the multi-disciplinary team and forwarding enquiries to appropriate staff as well as helping to ensure the smooth running of the ward by undertaking administrative duties in a timely manner.

- To treat all patients, visitors and colleagues with courtesy and respect; maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Maintaining a clean and tidy environment, and reporting all incidents / accidents to Senior Staff.
- To keep patient centre system up to date, including admission transfers and discharges of patients.
- To be responsible for inpatient / outpatient notes ensuring they are available and ready for use when needed.
- Ensure reports, care plans etc. are filed in notes.
- Ensure notes are available for coding after discharge of patients.
- All medical staff / midwifery staff sign results and ensure timely filing of results.
- To be responsible for collection and delivery of post.
- Answer telephone calls and queries from clients, relatives and members of the multi-disciplinary team, forwarding enquiries to appropriate staff.
- Keeping ward books up to date.
- Keeping list of patients admitted / discharged.
- Making follow-up appointments for patients.
- Bed state and ward boards updated daily.
- Ensure admissions / discharges are entered on the patient centre system.
- To ensure all stationery and information booklets are ordered when needed.
- To assist in the general running and maintenance of the ward as a member of the multi-disciplinary team.
- To bleep members of staff as required.
- Photocopy notes for transfer to other hospitals.
- Ensure transfer of notes form for coding office is undertaken.
- To be aware of emergency procedures.
