CLCH are looking for a motivated and dynamic leader to join the Patient Safety Team in the Quality & Learning Directorate, in a permanent position as Head of Patient Safety.

The Head of Patient Safety will be responsible for leading the programme of work to assess and support the delivery of targeted improvement initiatives to embed a robust safety culture in the trust. There will be a key emphasis on ensuring learning from adverse events and compliance with national best practice under the preventing harm campaign of the Trusts Quality Strategy.

This is an exciting time to join a well established team, as we implement the NHS Patient Safety Incident Response Framework and support development of a safety culture across the organisation for patients, families and carers, staff and other stakeholders.

Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Patient Safety the post holder will support the Trust’s patient safety agenda, leading on the implementation of sustainable actions to reduce incident reoccurrence, sharing learning and quality improvement.

As part of the Trusts Quality Assurance Framework the post holder will ensure that relevant patient safety initiatives are undertaken and reported and that improvement activity is undertaken in order that patient safety is monitored and improved. The post holder will manage the administrative functions of the patient safety team including the Patient Safety Coordinator(s), Risk Systems (Datix) Manager and the Patient Safety Administrator.

The post holder will act as the Trust’s expert advisor on enhancing safety culture, learning from patient safety incidents & ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, national and local policy, responsible for ensuring that the patient safety agenda is embedded throughout the organisation by providing support, advice and guidance on all aspects of patient safety

- Review and respond to the safety indicators within the annual staff survey.
- Take a holistic view of learning identified from analysing incidents and other quality measures and implement a programme of Preventing Harm workshops sharing learning and lessons trust wide.
- Work with the Complaints and Claims team to support learning from all Coroners Inquests and patient safety related claims.
- Coordinate the training provided by the Patient Safety Team.
