**About the role and our team**

We are looking for a suitably experienced and self-motivated professional to join our committed team as an Assistant Arboricultural Officer

This is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to gain wider experience in the arboriculture industry, develop their arboricultural skills and qualifications, and contribute to the development of services at a time of considerable change.

You will be part of a Department who work to protect and enhance the Island’s natural assets within the core principles of environmental, economic and social sustainability; whilst optimising quality of life, international reputation, food production energy security and outdoor amenity.

Our Department’s estate comprises a mixed forestry area of 2800 hectares, an upland estate of 8000 hectares, National Glens, parks and amenity areas totalling 400 hectares, a sawmill, and a significant portfolio of buildings and other structures. These are all managed through the Department’s Agriculture and Lands Directorate.

You will be based in the picturesque village of St John's in the Department's award winning Headquarters - Thie Slieau Whallian.

In this important supportive role, some of your responsibilities will include:

- Conducting site visits all over the Island
- Providing arboricultural advice and support
- Promoting tree-related information through various social media channels
- Assisting the Arboricultural Officer in the administration of the Tree Preservation Act 1993 and the implementation of the Department’s Tree Protection Policy
