Asylum Seeker and Refugee Support Worker

Support Worker for asylum seekers and refugees
Hours 18 hours per week (to include a Monday)
Salary £12,947.68 per year (Full-time equivalent £27,334.00)
Contract Permanent
Purpose of the post
- Provide practical support, at every stage of the victim/survivor journey
- Ensure that victims/survivors can access health, housing and other support services that appropriately recognise and meet the needs of the asylum seeker and refugee community.
- The support worker will improve client access to specialised services and provide equality of service.
Main Duties
For refugee and asylum seeker clients
- Help clients to access services they need, and to which they are entitled, e.g. through setting up referral systems to health, mental health and other support services
- Help clients to develop and maintain a practical and therapeutic support network
- Work with clients in a culturally sensitive way
- Arrange interpretation for counselling sessions
- Arrange childcare for clients with children when accessing counselling
- Support with writing of specialist reports
- Identify and find solutions to (where possible) barriers to accessing support faced by this client group
- Consider child and adult safeguarding issues when engaging with all clients and follow relevant safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Maintain effective communication systems with key partners, including mental health and sexual health services, voluntary sector organisations etc.
Development
- To undertake supervision with a Adult ISVA Team Leader
- To attend RSVP’s training and meetings as directed
- Manage the caseload of clients
Communication
- To attend supervision sessions with your line manager
- To work as a team with other staff at RSVP and share good practice and support one another
Administration
- To ensure Health and Safety is followed
- To ensure adequate records of session are kept in line with RSVP data protection policy
- To update diaries, use RSVP’s database and general admin to clients
General
- To maintain the confidentiality of people using Rape and Sexual Violence Project services
- To maintain confidentiality in all matters relating to the organisation
- To work within Rape and Sexual Violence Project framework for Equal Opportunities and Anti-Discriminatory practice
- To work within Rape and Sexual Violence Project Policies and Procedures and demonstrate a commitment to the values and mission statement of the Rape and Sexual Violence Project
- To maintain an awareness of the issues surrounding rape, sexual violence and childhood sexual abuse
- To ensure the efficient use of resources at all times
- To undertake any other duties required by the Rape and Sexual Violence Project
