**Learning and Community Coordinator**: £24,500 to £26,500 (pro rata) dependent on experience
**Location**: BACKLIT Gallery, Nottingham, NG3 1JG
**Hours per week**: 21 hours per week, over 3 days (Wednesday, Thursday & Friday)
**Contract**: 12-month fixed-term contract, with the potential to extend

We have a fantastic opportunity to join our friendly team at BACKLIT as a
Learning and Community Coordinator. BACKLIT currently delivers an exciting and ambitious programme of art exhibitions and events, and we are keen to captivate and develop audiences with families, schools, younger people, and local communities. Our Learning & Community Coordinator role is integral to our activity in achieving this.

In the role, you’d be:

- Leading in the development of a dynamic and bespoke education and learning framework; to include researching mapping audiences and effective ways to collate data
- Ensuring the learning programme is effective in accessing and captivating the least engaged audiences to become new audiences and participants
- Building and maintaining strong partnerships with artistic and educational organisations.
- Working closely with the Directors and the team to implement the framework
- Working with Directors to review learning opportunities to professionally develop in-house artistic practice
- Researching and mapping other national sector-led arts education initiatives which are actively exploring ways to develop skills in communities and use creativity to increase engagement in the arts
- Develop relationships and partnerships with key identified audiences
- Representing and promoting the Charity at networking events and our exhibitions
- Manage and develop the young people’s collective (16-25 years old), as well as the arts and feminist studies collective
- Working with the Directors to research fundraising opportunities within the arts education field
- Previous experience in developing and managing participatory arts activities across a wide range of audiences (i.e., community groups, ages, and backgrounds)
- Experience in working with artists, educators, and volunteers
- Good communication and personable skills, able to work well with people at all levels, ages, and backgrounds
- Excellent organisational and administration skills, with a keen eye for detail
- A keen interest in contemporary art practice
- Flexibility, approachability, motivation, and commitment to helping us achieve our goal

Ideally, you’ll also have experience in funding opportunities and national and regional arts education priorities, but this isn’t essential.

**JOB SPECIFICATION**

**The purpose of the role**
The role will be responsible for the implementation and ongoing review of our learning development framework and ensuring that it is accessible and effective in captivating the least engaged audiences in our local community to become new audiences and participants.

The role will build and maintain strong partnerships within the local community and with both artistic and educational organisations, including Nottingham Trent
University, the University of Nottingham, national/ international artists, curators, and galleries to help us deliver activities

**Main Responsibilities**

1.

To develop and review education and learning framework for BACKLIT; to include mapping audiences and effective ways to collate data.

2.

Work closely with the Co-Director and the team to implement the learning framework

3.

To ensure the learning programme is effective in accessing and captivating the least engaged audiences in our local community to become new audiences and participants.

4.

To work closely with the Artist Development Co-ordinator who is leading on Artist Professional Development; to review learning opportunities to professionally develop in house artistic practice

5.

Research ways to best engage audiences with Backlit (i.e., practically, creatively, dialogue) and how this informs the wider programme.

6.

To research and map other national sector led arts education initiatives which are actively exploring ways to develop skills in communities and use creativity to increase engagement in the arts

7.

Develop relationships and partnerships with key identified audiences

8.

As part of the legacy for the Samuel Morley project and related local heritage projects; liaise with the Community Ambassadors and connect with the local groups and residents.

9.

Working with the Co-Director to research fundraising opportunities within the arts education field

10.

Manage and develop the young people’s collective (16-25 years old), as well as the arts and feminist studies collective
