Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an aspiring Band 6 Clinical Educator to join our team of experienced, highly skilled nurses and support workers on Jubilee Ward. Jubilee is a new 20 bedded ward currently caring for elective post-operative colorectal patients.

We will be opening an 8 bedded Level 1 unit in for colorectal patients requiring close monitoring.

We have a caring and supportive team, dedicated to the continuing delivery of safe and excellent care which is supported by our exceptional patient feedback. We are looking for an individual who is enthusiastic and highly motivated to join our ward leadership and education team.

Main duties of the job

You will also be part of an already established team of Deputy sisters that strive to ensure that all staff are well educated and supported throughout their working career.

You will;
Ensure that education and training meets the specific needs of the specialist area.

Promote an environment that encourages learning, teaching and the development of all staff, including those undergoing training.

Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of the Education and Training within the speciality.

We are very excited to welcome a new Band 6 into our established team.

We care for elective Colorectal and HPB patients. Our surgeons are forward thinking and research active so much of our surgery is pioneering and done mínimally invasively. We work closely with a number of specialist teams including; Nurse Specialists, Stoma Specialist Nurses, Acute Pain Team, Dieticians, Physiotherapists and the Critical Care Outreach Team.

We have a supportive and skilled team of nurses and are looking for an aspiring Band 5 or band 6 who are enthusiastic and highly motivated to join our team.

If you are successful in your recruitment, we will offer an individualised personal development plan and go on the Band 6 Leadership course and other role development courses.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Ensure high quality, evidence-based care is offered to patients and, in collaboration with the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse, identify the common issues which affect the quality of care, devising clear action plans to address any shortcomings ensuring agreed action is undertaken.

During regular clinical sessions, act as a role model and teacher, working alongside other staff including visiting all patients in the ward in the absence of the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse.

Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria
- Current level one NMC registration
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and reflection
- Relevant clinical training skills and knowledge.

Desirable criteria
- Formal leadership and management training.
- Completion of all local competency packages.

Communication and Relationship Skills

Essential criteria
- Able to work closely with relevant staff to ensure optimum training, including relevant educational institutions.

Desirable criteria
- Able to deal with conflict and challenging behaviour.

Experience

Essential criteria
- Significant post-registration experience.
