**Senior Legal Policy Officer - Inside IR35**

**Contract Term: 6 Months with poss. ext.***

**Contracting Authority: MoD - DARR**

**Location: Hybrid - Remote & 1-3 days p/w in Whitehall, London.**

**Please note, this role requires active SC Clearance**

The Ministry of Defence (MOD) is a central government department with a mission to protect our country and provide the ultimate guarantee of its security and independence, as well as helping to protect its values and interests abroad.To do this we have an annual budget of almost £40 billion and a workforce comprising 193,000 people, almost 59,000 of whom are civilians. We currently manage more than £11 billion of spend every year.

Based within the Defence Afghanistan Relocation and Resettlement directorate, the legal policy team (headed by a Grade 7/B2) manage all legal cases against the MOD relating to ARAP and work both internally within the Directorate, to update seniors and check the progress of cases; and externally with MOD legal advisors and the Government Legal Department, as well as working closely with Home Office and FCDO who are both closely involved in ARAP work and ongoing legal cases.

**As a Senior Legal Policy Officer, your main responsibilities will be**:

- Advising on legal policy matters for ARAP & Leave Outside the Rules (LOTR) cases, processes & emerging issues.
- Working closely with the Government Legal Dept to provide policy input to live legal cases & managing risks arising from Judicial Reviews that the MoD is exposed to.
- Engaging with the legal policy team, the SLT in the DARR inc. relevant Deputy-Directors to ensure they are aware of issues / can provide senior input to decision-making.
- Identifying pertinent information from case working & eligibility files - clearly articulating how & why decisions were made regarding an applicant’s case & across wider cohorts.
- Ensuring good information management practices to help prepare for legal cases.
- Liaising with cross-government representatives on ARAP & resettlement legal issues - inc. FCDO / Home Office.
- Ensuring coherence of outputs with teams & keeping track of key deadlines to ensure MoD equities are protected.
- Supporting DARR policy teams to ensure the review & AFM functions operate as intended.

**You will have relevant experience in**:

- **Active SC Clearance is an essential requirement to be considered for this role.**:

- Demonstrable legal policy experience - ideally within the public sector.
- Civil litigation experience - inc. disclosures & redactions.
- Excellent communication & stakeholder management skills.
- A relevant Law degree / Legal Practice Course / Bar Course - desirable.
- Previous experience working as a paralegal, in casework, in legal environments or the government legal department - desirable.
