Data Protection Officer

**The opportunity**:
A key hire within the Partnership who will be responsible for the day-to-day data protection of Openwork's colleague, partner and client personal data.
Acting as a point of contact for all relevant stakeholders, including the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the DPO will be the leading source of expert advice on data protection obligations and how the Openwork Partnership will meet them.

**Key Accountabilities**:
**Leadership & Oversight**
- Ensure the Board understand their roles and responsibilities for data protection and information governance.
- Operate regular business-wide oversight group meetings for data protection that acts on reports and metrics and sponsors business change to maintain compliance.
**Policy & Procedures**
- The creation and curation of a framework of policy and procedures that provide stakeholders enough direction to understand their roles and responsibilities regarding data protection.
- Make policy easily available and ensure stakeholders read and understand the policies and procedures
**Training & Awareness**
- Ensure stakeholders receive appropriate training about the privacy and data protection programme - what the programme goals are and what responsibilities each stakeholder has.
**Individual Data Protection Rights**
- Management of individual complaints relating to data protection.
**Data Protection Incident & Breach Response**
- Create and embed the processes to detect, investigate, risk-assess and record data protection related incidents and breaches.
- Set up the necessary processes to report data breaches to the ICO and liaise with ICO representatives as needed
**Data Protection Risk Management**
- Ensure data protection risks are captured and managed as part of regular Business risk assessments.
- Undertake Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for any new or changed services that meet the necessary criteria and ensure the principle of data protection by design and by default is embedded in all Technology projects.
**Personal Data Processing**
- Maintain the documentation of Openwork's data processing (ROPAs)and the lawful basis underpinning these activities.
- Mapping of data controlled and processed across the Openwork Partnership to identify and address data protection requirements, particularly around the movement of data to third parties and/or out of the UK or EEA territories.
- Work with the Information Security, Technology and relevant Business functions to ensure the information security requirements relating to data protection are met, such as security around data transfers, data retention, secure access and secure destruction.
**Contracts & Third Parties**
- Ensure that data protection requirements are addressed through written contracts, data protection addendums and data sharing agreements as required.
- Work alongside Legal, Procurement and Vendor Assurance functions to make sure all third parties have captured and understood their obligations, responsibilities and liabilities and remain compliant while processing the personal data of the Openwork Partnership.
**What will you need to succeed?**:
- BA/BSc/Master’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
- Certified Data Protection officer (CDPO).
- Certified Information Privacy Professional - Europe (CIPP/E).
- BCS Certificate in Data Protection
- Previous track record of data protection work within the Financial Services sector
- Experience of operational environments where high volumes of personal data are held or processed.
- A history of operating successfully in the data protection context at senior management level in environments where a data protection incident or breach could have serious consequences on business operations.
- Expert knowledge of UK GDPR, EU GDPR and other applicable privacy law or regulation.
- Good understanding of information security controls and principles and their fundamental link to data protection.
- Able to articulate data protection concepts, principles and risks clearly and concisely across all stakeholders - from senior management through to front line workers on a telephone helpdesk.
- Ability to advocate and influence at senior management level so that data protection risk is accepted as a key Business risk.
- Self-disciplined and able to work either independently or as a team to meet tight deadlines or when under pressure.
