We’re currently recruiting for Project Officer to join our team on a 12-month secondment or fixed term contract.

The Trust’s Data Protection Office (DPO) is a close-knit and busy team dedicated to the protection of personal data across all National Trust functions and activities.

By putting individuals at the heart of everything we do, we help the Trust to deliver on its strategic objectives in accordance with current legislation (UK General Data Protection Regulation / Data Protection Act 2018) and the guidance of the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO)

This role will give you the opportunity to work in a varied and fast-paced environment which will involve working flexibly and independently to meet changing priorities.

Your contractual location will be our head office in Swindon and there will be an expectation for you to attend the office. However, there is flexibility on where you are based at other times. You will be required to work at a National Trust location for 40-60% of your working week. This will be discussed in more detail at interview.

What you'll be doing:You’ll handle complex and sensitive information and confidential interaction with internal and external stakeholders (including using influencing skills), meeting key deadlines and carefully following internal processes.

**Key responsibilities will include**:

- Working independently to support our Assistant Data Protection Lead with focus on Project & Programme Risk, ensuring active management and prioritisation of assessment tasks and enquiries.
- Hosting meetings with our IT Assurance colleagues and other business stakeholders; logging decisions, following up actions and escalating risks promptly where needed
- Supporting management of DPO risk-related governance and assurance tasks across IT and wider organisation
- Co-ordinating reviews of the Trust’s Record of Processing Activity to ensure they are complete and up-to-date.
- Facilitating policy review and process improvement activities where required, including assessment of approved toolsets to support efficiency within the Data Protection Office

We would love to hear from you if have:

- A working understanding of UK GDPR principles and controls, including the risks of non-compliance
- Organisational skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- A proven record of communicating professionally with internal and external stakeholders
- A problem-solving mindset to support risk mitigation within the boundaries of our compliance framework
- Experience of working with Office 365 toolsets plus flexibility to adapt to and learn other data protection-related systems as required - particularly JIRA and OneTrust.
- The ability to understand and follow internal processes and regulatory requirements and can signpost these to others
- A forward planning mindset to anticipate future resource commitments and highlighting potential resourcing risks
