**Nuclear Waste Services brings together the UK’s leading nuclear waste management capabilities.**

We have integrated the expertise of Low Leel Waste Repository (LLWR), Radioactive Waste Management (RWM), and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) group’s Integrated Waste Management Programme (IWMP). This creates an organisation focused on the management of the UK’s nuclear waste, safely and securely for generations to come.

We are part of the NDA group, which is undertaking the biggest clean-up project in Europe over many decades. Nuclear Waste Services is integral to this environmental clean-up mission, as we work to provide permanent answers to our country’s nuclear waste. The UK has been producing and managing radioactive waste on an industrial scale since the 1940s. However, today’s approach and capabilities for waste management need to adapt to keep pace with NDA’s decommissioning ambitions. This includes its commitment to recycle 50% of waste from decommissioning and reduce secondary wastes by around 70% by 2030.

To provide support to enable a local Working Group and/or Community Partnership to function effectively. Supporting the development of positive local relationships within communities that engage with the Geological Disposal Facility (GDF) siting process, so that RWM becomes an integral part of those communities. Be part of the team that provides the link between local communities and RWM to ensure effective communication and strong relationships between key community stakeholders.

As our Community Engagement Coordinator, you will directly report to a Community Engagement Manager.
Key Internal contacts will be with the Community Engagement team within the Siting & Engagement Directorate but also include colleagues from the Communications & Stakeholder Engagement and Technical teams. There will be contact with the RWM management team and all levels within the organisation.
There may be contact with our parent organisation, the National Decommissioning Authority our sponsoring government department, BEIS, and in Welsh Government as appropriate.
External contacts will be focused in a local area and include local community groups, local government, supply chain, regulators, NGOs and key influencers. Of these, the key contacts will be those individuals or organisations that are members of the Working Group or Community Partnership including the support provided by a contracted Chair, Facilitator and Secretariat.

In this varied role you will provide support to the management and delivery of RWM’s community engagement activities
- especially in regard to the functioning of Working Groups and/ or Community Partnerships in a local area.

**As a Community Engagement Coordinator**
**your main responsibilities would be to**:

- Help to ensure RWM meets the obligations of the relevant Working with Communities policy.
- Play a supporting role in ensuring that RWM becomes a partner trusted by communities.
- Support the delivery of key actions to enable RWM to engage with communities including meetings, visits, communication and engagement activities.
- Assist the Working Groups and Community Partnership members (including contracted suppliers) to perform their duties (e.g. supporting meetings, visits, training programmes, reporting regimes).
- Help with the procurement of and liaison with relevant suppliers supporting the community engagement processes.
- Support the regular activities of the Community Engagement team, including activity and budgetary reporting, team meetings etc.
- Liaise with other RWM teams operating in the area.

**You’ll have the relevant criteria, skills and experience in the following areas (please note you MUST have these clearly demonstrated on your C.V)**:

- A full UK Driving licence and own car. (Mileage expenses covered).
- A good understanding of community engagement techniques.
- Local to Allerdale with extensive knowledge of the local geographical area.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a personable nature.
- Comfortable and confident with dealing with a variety of people.
- Good administrative skills, including meeting deadlines and prioritising workload.
- Experience/ knowledge of community engagement/ outreach activities.
- Knowledge and experience of partnership working.
- Demonstration of empathy in dealing with range of external stakeholders.
- Good communication and influencing skills.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
- Self-motivated and with high personal resilience.
