With state-of-the-art skills in materials technology, particularly relating to elastomers, polymers, composites and engineering plastics plus extensive expertise in precision machining of exotic alloys for metallic seals, and tension control fasteners for bolted joints. Our worldwide group of companies has 11 operations and a further 40 spread across Continental Europe, Australia, New Zealand, SE Asia, South Africa and the USA.

The Position
James Walker and Co Ltd are looking to recruit a Quality Engineer to support the Quality Team at the manufacturing site in Cockermouth, Cumbria.

Key responsibilities
  • Continual improvement of the Quality Management System, ensuring key processes, procedures and documentation are in place to comply with national, industry and customer specific standards.
  • To fully support, both the customer and accreditation body audits as well as coordinating any resulting CAPA’s.
  • Handling various enquiries in relation to Quality related matters from internal and external stakeholders and supporting customer and supplier visits as necessary.
  • Maintain, improve and drive forward shop floor processes by promoting and enforcing compliance.
  • Represent the Quality department at internal and off site meetings as required, may include supplier audits.
  • Liaise with other departments for example Technical and Operations to ensure delivery of conforming products to our Customers.
  • Supporting audits, internal and external.
  • Lead problem solving and continuous improvement activity.
  • Produce and deliver training materials.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key customers, suppliers and approval authorities.
  • Provide support to the wider Quality team as required.
  • Provide support to the wider James Walker team as required.

  • The willingness and enthusiasm to embrace change look at new ways of working and support continuous improvement initiatives and projects.
  • Good IT Skills and proficient in all Microsoft Applications.
  • Analytical/logical thinker.
  • Self-motivated to achieve targets.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Be able to demonstrate experience of problem solving and continuous improvement activity.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • Proven experience of working in a Quality environment.
  • Solid understanding of Quality Management Systems.
  • Proficient in the use of quality core tools around APQP and 8D.
  • Knowledge of AS9100, ISO9001 and Lean Sigma tools would be an advantage.
