**Main Purpose of Job**

We are recruiting talented and enthusiastic individuals to be policy apprentices in the FCDO at Executive Officer (EO) level. No previous policy or Civil Service experience is necessary, as these roles are ideal for someone who is looking for their first policy job. Alongside your day job, you will learn how to formulate policy and will develop crucial knowledge, skills and behaviours to become a policy professional.

These roles are an exciting opportunity to:

- Support international policy-making in either a geographical or thematic FCDO department, dealing with important issues;
- Make a positive contribution in a policy area; and
- Develop effective policy knowledge, skills and behaviours.
- Supporting the development of the UK government’s international policies through research, analysis, and consultation with key stakeholders.
- Providing support and advice to decision-makers such as senior managers, ministers or other key stakeholders.
- Handling critical parliamentary work (e.g. Parliamentary Questions and ministerial correspondence) and contributing to ministerial and other briefings related to your team’s policy areas.
- You may also be leading on discreet projects or programmes; arranging visits and/or conferences related to your team’s policy areas.

**Things you need to know**
- The typical duration for this Level 4 Policy Officer apprenticeship is 18 months. It will lead to a level 4 apprenticeship Certificate in Policy, which is equivalent to foundation degree level.
- Our policy apprenticeship roles are for those who are new to policy work. If you have already studied the level 4 Policy Officer apprenticeship, or are a graduate, this apprenticeship will not be suitable for you. Please see further details under the Person Specification.

The practical period is due to end at the gateway point before the end-point assessment. Throughout the programme, you will have ongoing support from your Apprenticeship Trainer and your FCDO Line Manager. We will also aim to allocate you a mentor who can offer you additional guidance.
