**Job summary**:

- The Data Protection officer/Head of Data Protection Assurance sits within the Grants, Risk, Assurance and Fraud Team (GRAFT) which provides advice, guidance and scrutiny to teams to assist with their grants, risk management, data protection, counter fraud and assurance considerations on how to spend public money.**Job description**:
The Data Protection Officer/Head of Data Protection Assurance conducts an annual audit and department audits using the ICO framework.

The role also involves occasional support to the Operational Data Protection Team. The post provides assurance on the completion of Data Protection Impact Assessments and various other documents.This exciting, high-profile role is an opportunity to confidently lead DCMS further along its compliance journey: to respect data privacy rights and protect personal information.

The role will assure DCMS compliance with the Data Protection Act (DPA) 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation (UK & EU GDPR) and Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) 2003 (and all updates).

Alongside this you are expected to help review and implement the policies and guidelines on Personal Data Protection, review and advise on the implementation of Privacy by Design and PECR throughout the whole project lifecycle and you will provide advice on Privacy Impact Assessments and oversee the reporting of breaches to the DPA and help implement an awareness programme to give to the employees.

You will advise on the specific requirements for role based data protection training, eg. Security, HR, Estates, Senior Management, and general data governance, including DPIA’s and compliance documentation and recording.

Essential Requirements
- Expertise in national data protection laws and practices, including an in-depth understanding of UKGDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
- Experience of implementing GDPR in a similar organisation either in the public or private sectors.
- Ability to lead and energise a team of data protection practitioners, instilling a clear narrative as to the importance of data protection and driving a culture of personal and professional development within the team.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to break down and disseminate the key data protection requirements, bringing the law to life for all relevant

Desirable Skills
- Professional privacy qualification or accreditation such as the CIPP/E
- A post graduate qualification in data protection law.
- Audit or related assurance experience (e.g. completion of privacy audits)
- Awareness of information/cyber security principles and practice
