Our client, a highly reputable London University, is seeking an experienced Data Protection Officer to join their growing team. You will exercise the function of DPO, acting as first point of contact for Data Subjects, Regulators, Data Processors and other DPOs including advising on proposed reform to Data Protection legislation in UK, UKGDPR, EUGDPR and international Data Protection Laws inc. USA, China, Canada etc.

**Duties include**:

- To act as the Data Protection Officer (DPO), advising the business of its obligations to operate within the requirements of European and UK privacy regulations and to liaise with supervisory authorities when required.
- Develop, implement, and maintain a framework of policies, procedures, processes, guidance and metrics to ensure compliance with data protection legislation using a risk-based approach that aligns with relevant quality standards and strategic aims.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to c-suite level leadership on data protection issues and risk including the preparation and delivery of board level presentations encompassing progress, issues and status to senior leadership and other key groups when required.
- Support the internal review of Data Protection Agreements (DPA) and other data protection related documentation.
- Conducting data protection audits and creation of recommendations/action plans to ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
- Provide expert advice to the University research community including extensive contact with research stakeholders in the NHS, ensuring compliance with NHS Data protection Toolkit to facilitate processing of NHS patient data for research purposes.
- Support programmes and projects with data privacy reviews in line with business and stakeholder requirements.
- A great understanding of best practice in the fields of privacy, data protection and information management, in particular UK and EU GDPR and other relevant laws
- An understanding of NHS (UK) policy and standards
- Completing data protection impact assessments (DPIA) or other privacy or information security related assurance questionnaires
- A track record in leading and implementing successful privacy or information governance programmes.
