The Role
Christie’s is looking to recruit an experienced Data Protection Officer to lead the data governance and privacy strategy across our global business. As a key member of the Data & Insight team, the Data Protection Officer will play a pivotal role in shaping and implementing our data governance policies, processes and controls to ensure compliance with data protection laws and regulations.
Specific duties & responsibilities will include, but are not limited toReview Christie’s global data protection program and governance strategy to ensure that it is up to date and design and implement any necessary changes.- Provide specialised, pragmatic, regulatory guidance and training to ensure the implementation of data policies, processes and controls that are aligned with applicable legislation and regulations.- Develop and implement data protection metrics that identify gaps and set standards across the business; ensure processes are in place to proactively detect and correct any gaps or failures to meet those set standards.- Conduct comprehensive Privacy Impact Assessments and system monitoring reviews.- Acts as the main point of contact and an expert in privacy and data compliance within Christie’s; counselling stakeholders for any questions related to data privacy and data goverance.- Chair regular Governance Working Group meetings to ensure Legal, Marketing, IT, and InfoSec are aligned on data protection requirements and completing any outstanding action points.-
- Coordinate response to privacy incidents and breaches, internal audits, investigations and interact with local data protection authorities, when required and co-ordinate with relevant stakeholders (Legal, C-Suite, Tech, HR, line-management)- Ensure the company’s IT systems and procedures comply with all relevant data privacy and protection laws and regulation, including in relation to the retention and destruction of data.- Work closely with the business (Marketing/IT/Data) to embed data protection compliance in all transformation and digital/systems programs.- Manage Data Protection Agreements with third party data processors. Review supplier and client contracts and processes, including international data transfer measures and perform activities related to privacy impact assessments and vendor due diligence.- Develop and implement training programs and increase awareness of data protection and privacy issues across the company.- Work with the business to ensure all necessary colleagues are trained and receive appropriate communication regarding the governance of our data.-
- Build/maintain a data repository (SharePoint sites) which includes operational data, policies and projects on Data Governance and Control. Ensure all documents are up to date.- Monitor changes to global privacy laws and make recommendations to the Governance Committee where appropriate; advise the business on the framework and parameters by which the business should be managing data in reference to recent legislation.- Regularly review and assess access and permissions levels within our data tools across all roles within the organisation.- Maintain the highest degree of confidentiality and professionalism
Key Requirements- Previous experience in a privacy roles in a multinational/global organisation, with demonstrable experience in UK/EU data protection laws, regulations, rules and guidance.- CIPP/E/M Certificate in Data Protection or equivalent recognised professional standard required.- Strong knowledge of GDPR regulation, and a good understanding of major privacy frameworks and evolving legislations worldwide.- Experience with privacy breach incident response and privacy impact assessments.- Experience in developing policy and compliance training.- A solution oriented mindset that facilitates the solving of complex privacy and data protection problems.- Ability to reconcile compliance requirements with practical business needs.- Ability to drive projects and exercise good independent judgement.- Excellent team leadership, change management, and interpersonal skills; relationship builder, facilitator, diplomat, influencer.- Ability to work cross-functionally and internationally with multiple partners and translate data protection requirements into a company common language in line with Christie’s culture.- The ability to provide clear, concise and timely advice when dealing with ambiguity and under-pressure.
