Oldham Care Organisation are looking to recruit enthusiastic and highly motivated Junior Clinical Fellows to join our Intensive Care Unit at The Royal Oldham Hospital for a period of 6 months. It is essential that you have attained satisfactory completion of Foundation competences (or equivalent) or expectation to do so before start of post.
The Unit currently has 22 beds, which are a mixture of L3 and L2 beds, split flexibly over 3 pods. There are 10 consultants in the department, all of whom are keen to teach. The department hosts intensive care medicine trainees and anaesthetic trainees completing intensive care modules. There is also a team of specialty doctors who are on the senior tier of resident medical staff. You will join the junior tier of medical staff which also includes internal medicine trainees undertaking ICM modules and advanced critical care practitioners (ACCPs).
The successful applicants will join the junior medical tier providing cover to the Intensive Care Unit at The Royal Oldham Hospital. The role will involve reviewing patients within the intensive care unit, formulating a management plan and presenting to the consultant responsible for the unit on the daily ward round. As part of the team looking after each pod of patients, you will have responsibility for carrying out the plan following the day’s morning ward round and also reviewing any changes to patients’ conditions during the day. You will gain experience of carrying out practical procedures such as central venous catheter insertion and arterial line insertion as well as experience of induction of anaesthesia and airway management in critically ill patients in a well supervised and supportive environment.
